Two years—that's how long it took me to land my first accounting job. Not because I lacked the skills, but because I lacked the guidance and experience on my CV. It was a tough journey, but once I secured that first role and added just three months of experience, everything changed. Job offers started coming in, and recruiters began reaching out—even without me applying. This experience taught me that graduating with a first-class degree is only part of the equation. A degree provides theoretical knowledge, but it’s the practical, hands-on experience that truly opens doors in the accounting world. That’s why I’ve teamed up with a Senior Accountant to design a Practical Training Accounting Course tailored for graduates and aspiring accountants who face similar challenges. Here’s how our course at Taxcare Accountancy can help you bridge the gap between theory and practice: ➡️Hands-on Training with Qualified Accountants ➡️ Real-World Experience Using Real Company Documents ➡️ Flexible Scheduling—Choose Your Own Day and Time ➡️ Regular Performance Reviews to Track Your Progress ➡️ Job Market Awareness Sessions ➡️ Professional CV & Interview Preparation ➡️ Guaranteed Work Placement ➡️ References Provided to Potential Employers Course Highlights: Bookkeeping/Payroll ➡️Setting up companies with various VAT schemes ➡️Customizing charts of accounts and nominal ledgers ➡️Processing customer and supplier invoices, credits, and payments ➡️Performing bank and petty cash reconciliations ➡️Calculating and submitting VAT returns ➡️Handling complex VAT scenarios (CIS, reverse charge, imports/exports) And much more! This course is designed to give you the practical knowledge and confidence you need to succeed in accounting. If you’ve got the degree but are struggling to get your foot in the door, let us help you gain the experience that will set you apart. 💼 Ready to take the next step? Consultant at Crowe Watson Recruitment - Public Practice Specialists - recruiting across the UK - dan@crowewatson.co.uk
Happy Monday all! This week, I'm going to give CV tips for candidates specific to my area of recruitment expertise, Public Practice. I'll let you know the sort of things that should be included and any other helpful pointers that could be of use. Throughout the week, I'll be looking at content for specific roles e.g. Audit Semi Seniors/Seniors/Managers, Business Services Semi Seniors/Seniors/Managers, Tax candidates, and more. Today though, let's take a more general look; -Always include your education/professional qualifications. Make sure you include the date you started/attended. -Including dates (month and year) is also important for the firms that you have worked at. -For those pursuing or holding professional qualifications like ACCA or ACA, clarity on your progress (e.g., 7/13 modules for ACCA or 9/15 for ACA) including first-time passes or resits, is invaluable. -If you're studying AAT, indicate your current level to provide a clear snapshot of your expertise. -Ensure that all details are succinctly presented. -Your software experience/proficiency (e.g., Sage, Xero) is a critical component of your skill set. -And lastly, bullet points are your friend, don't waffle! This is by no means an exhaustive list, so if there are any you think I've missed, feel free to comment below. If you need help with writing your CV, please do get in touch and we can go through everything together in more detail. Tomorrow, CV tips for Business Services/Accounts Semi Seniors! #PublicPractice #CVClinic #ProfessionalDevelopment #AccountingCareers #CVTips #JobSearch #Accountancy #ACCA #ACA #AAT #ProfessionalQualifications #CareerProgression #LinkedInNetworking
