GRAHAM Group secure £100m Cardiff Crossrail phase 1 - Design & Build... The Cardiff Crossrail project is a transformative transportation initiative, leveraging early contractor involvement (ECI) with Graham to optimize design and construction. Backed by £50m each from the UK and Welsh Governments, Phase 1 focuses on connecting Cardiff Central railway station to Cardiff Bay. Phase 1a, fully funded, includes highway redevelopment around Callaghan Square and a new tram/train platform at Cardiff Central, ensuring integration with existing rail infrastructure. Phase 1b, currently unfunded, proposes extending the tram line to Pierhead Street, requiring further highway modifications. Consultants WSP in the UK and Rider Levett Bucknall RLB have been engaged for program and cost management. Detailed design completion is anticipated by Autumn 2025, with construction set to begin late 2025 and completion by early 2028. Construction starts for US$9-billion airport transformation project in Texas

Extra tunnels included in £6bn East West Railway Company scheme The Government has unveiled details of the proposed #EastWestRail project following its commitment to fund the project in the last #Budget. Plans include a new section of #railway between #Bedford and #Cambridge, including building new stations at #Tempsford and #Cambourne, and upgrades to the existing railway between #Oxford and Bedford. Bowing to pressure to reduce the project’s environmental impact two tunnels are now proposed for the new stretch of railway in Cambridgeshire. Design engineers have also worked to reduce costs and have removed or reduced the height of embankments and viaducts for over half the route between Bedford and Cambridge. The cost of the project has now risen from a previous upper estimate of £5.3bn to £6bn. Of the total around £3bn will be direct construction cost. New stations for Cambourne and Tempsford Upgrades at Cambridge station. These would include two new railway tracks next to the West Anglia Main Line from Shepreth Junction to Cambridge Station, a new platform, platform extensions, footbridges, and building upgrades. A cut and cover tunnel beneath the A428 and Bourn Airfield development A 700m tunnel through Chapel Hill near Haslingfield to avoid constructing a large cutting, which could affect the flight paths of local Barbastelle bats. Green traction power in the form of discontinuous electrification with hybrid battery-electric trains, to reduce carbon emissions and reduce disruption during construction. Transport Secretary Louise Haigh MP said the scheme would create “more than £6bn in economic growth”, 28,000 new jobs and tens of thousands of new homes. “Today marks a major milestone for the project as we encourage communities to have their say on this transformational line that will offer so much more than simply getting people from A to B,” she added. https://lnkd.in/eUWJG5jy

Sydney Metro City Project Set to Commence on August 4th, 2024 The Sydney Metro project, being one of the biggest #publictransport projects, is evolving enormously as it seeks to transform #Sydney’s #transport system. Another addition to the city’s #transportation #infrastructure is the new 66 km of rapid #transit system that’s expected to boost the connectivity and productivity in the area. The facilities for the testing of Sydney Metro City and Southwest line contain the 15. Trench #construction for the twin 5-kilometer tunnels from Chatswood to Sydenham is set to commence in early 2024. This intensive testing phase has already delivered 33 out of the 45 metro trains completing round trips between Tallawong and Sydenham, a significant achievement that involved up to eight trains at a time to test the capacity to handle simultaneous peak operations where the system will deliver trains every four minutes in the peak. Recently, Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) said that Sydney will enter a new phase of transportation with the opening of the Sydney Metro City on August 4, 2024. This initiative seeks to deliver fast, safe and reliable metro services across the city subject to favourable trial running and system performance tests, as well as regulatory requirements. Project overview This project comprises six new stations within the CBD of Sydney; Victoria Cross, Barangaroo, Martin Place, Pitt Street and Central, with the stations still undergoing vigorous testing and touches. This line will achieve historic travel time once implemented where passengers will be able to move from Victoria Cross in North Sydney to Barangaroo in a record three minutes, or from Waterloo to Central in two minutes. Further, the proposed Sydney Metro West line is well on track, the main tender packages for station construction and infrastructure development are termed. This line will effectively double rail connections between greater Parramatta and the Sydney CBD and will also incorporate new stations that include Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays. Some of the shortlisted bidders in these categories include CPB Contractors, Lendlease Construction, and John Holland Pty Ltd. The project also envisages significant long-term benefits as part of its overall long-term benefits. The Sydney Metro rail system will increase to 113 kilometers and 46 stations by 2030 thus improving the connectivity of Sydney as a city. As the first four Victorian sites on the Inland Rail project charge strongly to the finish line, the construction of the remaining eight sites is coming into sharp focus.

🛤 Network Rail prepares for £3M Perthshire bridge replacement 🛤 Network Rail is preparing to start a £3M #bridgereplacement in #Killiecrankie, Perthshire. Work on the Rannoch Road bridge, off the B8079, will see the #existing #bridge deck replaced over a period of six months. Engineers from #NetworkRail and contractor AmcoGiffen will also make alterations to the bridge abutments to accommodate a new concrete arch deck on the 128-year-old single-span structure, which sits over the Highland Main Line. In order to allow traffic to continue flowing, a #temporarybridge will be installed before the existing one is removed. Network Rail scheme project manager Susan Menmuir (Rennie) said: “#Renewal work such as this is essential in allowing Network Rail to #maintain and #improve our assets across Scotland’s Railway. “This is a significant piece of engineering and not without its challenges. Not only are we replacing the bridge deck, we’re also installing a #temporarystructure next to it and within a tight space. However, this allows vehicle access to be maintained for the community during delivery of much of the works. “Replacing the 128-year-old bridge will ensure that work on this scale will not be required for at least another 120-years.” The six-month programme is set to start on 2 September and run until March 2025. It is part of a £1.95bn modernisation programme of railways in Scotland. Access at Rannoch Road will be maintained apart from over two consecutive weekends when the existing bridge is demolished and the new bridge is installed. This will be done over two consecutive weekends of extended engineering works, with no trains running on the line, from 30 November to 2 December and 7-9 December. Community drop-in sessions are being held later this month for residents and businesses to ask questions about the work. #Silvertown Tunnel to open in April 2025, Transport for London confirms Transport for London (TfL) has confirmed that the #SilvertownTunnel will open on 7 April 2025, as construction work on the project nears an end. The 1.4km long twin bore Silvertown Tunnel will take road traffic under the River Thames, between Silvertown to the north and the Greenwich Peninsula to the south.
