A client recently asked. “Hey Rocio, we just fired our scanning consultant and need to replace them. It wasn’t working out...As part of this replacement, we're revisiting scope. What should we ask the new vendor to scan?" My jaw dropped. This question indicated that the client was asking the right questions. I replied: “Well, let’s pull out our data flow diagram and network diagram." We then proceeded to mark up segments of the data processing environment that is managed by the IT team and handles debit card funding and repayment processing. We agreed that it made sense to add the rest of the front-end (as it's customer-facing and the entry point for customers), underwriting processing, and the internal portal that overlays to the LMS. This approach allows us to satisfy PCI-DSS 11.2 and areas identified as critical from the BIA. Has your team recently started to run security scans? If so, how did you approach scope?

CMS released updated cutpoints as a spreadsheet on https://lnkd.in/eBpeJaZX. We've reviewed and found the following: 1) CMS changed some cutpoints that are not required by Guardrails insofar as we can tell - C02(COL)'s 3-Star changed to 61 instead of 60. Last year was 60 and 2 Star had to be revised by guardrails. 2) CO8/OMW was also updated at all levels. We're not sure why; the original Tukey cutpoints are within 5 points of 2023s so this is not necessary from guardrails alone. 3) C11/CBP - CMS is treating like a new measure so guardrails are not applied. (Also D07/MPF which we realized in Sept) 4) Our analysis from last week included 2 miscalculations on particular cutpoints. 5) CMS recalculated the Reward Factor thresholds which we did not predict. 6) CMS applied a novel Hold Harmless to prevent contract ratings from dropping. Overall, this appears to impact about 7 additional contracts with higher ratings. We are still analyzing. Finally, BHA premium subscribers can download the analysis from last week along with our cutpoint comparison.
