U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and State Senator Iwen Chu held a press conference on e-bike safety at CPC Brooklyn Community Center. They were joined by Council Member Alexa Aviles, New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Commissioner Laura Kavanaugh and over 25 community leaders. We acknowledge that people most affected by e-bike fires are Asian Americans, people of color, immigrant and lower income communities. It is critical that we work together to ensure safety of our communities by ensuring and provide wrap around services to all the victims affected by tragic incidents of E-bike fire. CPC is looking forward to working with our elected partners and community leaders to ensure safety in our neighborhoods.

Please consider nominating the intersection of Dewey Ave & Driving Park A in the Edgerton neighborhood. “In our play we reveal what kind of people we are.” ~ Ovid Safe Gathering Space: A well-maintained playground offers a safe space for children and families to gather, reducing the likelihood of them being exposed to unsafe areas. Community Engagement: Playgrounds encourage community members to come together, fostering stronger relationships and a sense of belonging. Positive Youth Development: Access to a playground promotes physical activity, creativity, and social interaction among children, contributing to their overall development. Crime Reduction: Increased community presence in public spaces can deter criminal activities. Active, well-used areas are less attractive to those engaging in illegal behavior. Improved Mental Health: Playgrounds provide a natural setting for relaxation and stress relief for both children and adults, enhancing mental well-being. Economic Benefits: Revitalizing public spaces can attract investment, boost property values, and support local businesses by drawing more foot traffic to the area. Educational Opportunities: Features like a performance stage and mural and poetry walks can offer educational and cultural enrichment, inspiring creativity and learning. Community Pride: A beautiful, functional playground can instill a sense of pride in the neighborhood, encouraging residents to take ownership and responsibility for their community. Enhanced Quality of Life: Overall, a playground improves the quality of life for residents by providing a space for recreation, socialization, and cultural activities.

When more people ride bikes, life is better for everyone. It’s one of the League’s guiding principles, one we seek to achieve through our advocacy, our programs, and our campaigns. It’s why we’re responding to the current crisis with resources for advocates and local businesses while also forging ahead on our core work around federal advocacy and building a more bicycle-friendly America for everyone. https://buff.ly/3V0gf1x https://buff.ly/4e0DP7e

👏 great step forward for these nine communities! Locking up kids is never the answer. Time to pursue alternative, proven policy solutions.Time to put the wellbeing of children first. Find out more about our evidence-based framework for child wellbeing at www.aracy.org.au
Huge news! We've announced nine communities that will benefit from the largest commitment to justice reinvestment ever delivered by the commonwealth. Justice reinvestment is a long-term, community-led approach to preventing crime, improving community safety and reducing the number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander adults and children in custody. It empowers First Nations communities and leaders to develop local solutions to divert people who are at risk away from the criminal justice system. We're committed to working in partnership with communities, because we know lasting change needs to be community-led. This is just one way that we're delivering practical action that makes a difference in Indigenous communities.
