The key resource missing from this article? Well, Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), duh!!! It's ok to be on a learning curve with these cultural activities, but getting ERG input upfront means faster success ...and better engagement. Also means everything can happen without debilitating mistakes. I went to the very best Day of the Dead museum event last year. And when I made inquiries about how a big organization made it happen, the telltale signs were everywhere... building coalition with culturally-savvy community partners. And who knew best which were the best external partners... ERG members with great connections and lived experience. Note that privilege was also required to do some brainstorming and planning work on company time. #CulturallyRich #SupportiveEnvironment https://lnkd.in/g9FN3hm3

Lunar New Year of the Dragon is just around the corner. Many employees with Asian backgrounds feel that Lunar New Year celebrations are not fully acknowledged by their employers. As workforces grow more diverse, companies are recognizing the importance of multicultural celebrations, including heritage months and culturally specific holidays. According to McKinsey & Company research, companies leading in diversity are 35% more likely to outperform their peers financially. Additionally, Deloitte data shows that workers who have a strong sense of belonging are often more productive, take fewer sick days, and are less likely to leave their companies. Let's strive to create inclusive workplaces that recognize the value of cultural diversity and promote a sense of belonging for all employees. #DEI #productivity #culturematters #CNY #diversity https://lnkd.in/gEti4Uwx #JohnLeungMCR #LBFAlumni #SkyHighTower

Diverse Celebrations Foster Inclusive Workplaces. Inclusivity isn't just a policy – it's a practice. Integrating a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) calendar into your organization isn't just a progressive step; it's a necessary one. Celebrating diverse holidays isn't just about acknowledging dates; it's about valuing the rich tapestry of cultures and perspectives within your team. It's about creating an environment where every member feels seen, heard, and valued. Consider this: a survey shows 82% of employees feel more appreciated when their unique holidays are recognized. More so, companies embracing this approach have seen a 23% boost in employee retention. That's not just numbers – it's real impact. And here's something for HR leaders – an inclusive DEI calendar. It's not exhaustive, but it's a solid foundation for elevating your DEI efforts. More than just marking days off, it's about crafting experiences that resonate with everyone in your team, making each day at work a celebration of diversity. Remember, embracing DEI isn't just a one-time event; it's a continuous journey of learning, understanding, and growing together. Let's make our workplaces a reflection of the diverse world we live in. #TSIM #DEICalendar #DEI #inclusiveculture

I won a Stanley cup! I never win things, so this excited me especially since I told everyone in the office prematurely that I was going to win being hopeful while manifesting. As you all know I absolutely love all things DEI and how it affects the workplace culture, we can use holidays as these to have team building activities within the office to celebrate cultures appropriately. Let's dispel some myths about Cinco de Mayo from an HR perspective. While Cinco de Mayo is widely celebrated in the United States, there are several myths and misunderstandings that can arise, leading to potential cultural insensitivity or inappropriate behavior. 1. Cinco de Mayo is Mexican Independence Day**: One of the most prevalent misconceptions is that Cinco de Mayo marks Mexico's Independence Day. In reality, Mexico's Independence Day is celebrated on September 16th. Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican army's victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862. 2. **All Mexican employees celebrate Cinco de Mayo**: Not all employees of Mexican descent may feel a personal connection to Cinco de Mayo or choose to celebrate it. HR should recognize and respect individual differences in cultural backgrounds and preferences. Avoid making assumptions about employees' participation in Cinco de Mayo celebrations and refrain from pressuring anyone to participate in activities they are not comfortable with. 3. **Cinco de Mayo is a federal holiday**: Unlike federally recognized holidays such as Thanksgiving or Independence Day, Cinco de Mayo is not a federal holiday in the United States. While some companies may choose to observe it with paid time off or special events for team building, others may not. 4. **Cinco de Mayo is solely about Mexican culture**: While Cinco de Mayo originated in Mexico, its celebration has transcended borders and become a global phenomenon. In addition to Mexican culture, Cinco de Mayo celebrations often incorporate elements of Tex-Mex cuisine, music, and traditions. HR can use this opportunity to promote diversity and inclusion by highlighting the contributions of various cultures to the celebration. Cinco de Mayo presents an opportunity for HR professionals to promote cultural sensitivity, inclusivity, and respect in the workplace. By addressing common misconceptions and fostering understanding, HR and ERGs can create a more inclusive environment where all employees feel valued and respected, regardless of their cultural backgrounds or personal preferences. How did your company celebrate this holiday to team build and educate? Let's celebrate Cinco de Mayo and all cultural holidays responsibly and with appreciation for its historical significance and cultural diversity. #Dei #cincodemayo #teambuilding

In this week’s Increase Diversity newsletter, Jenn Tardy discusses “The Untapped Power of Holidays in Increasing Diversity and Retention.” Going far beyond just providing a holiday party or sending out a thoughtful holiday message, Tardy suggests we work to make ourselves more aware of the holidays outside of our own and the harmful effects that such unawareness may have with inclusivity in the workplace and recruitment. There are many holidays to keep in mind and it may feel cumbersome but Tardy asserts that “by wholeheartedly embracing shared humanity and honoring diverse histories, you’re crafting more than just vibrant workplaces. You’re nurturing spaces where there is no place for harm, and understanding, respect, and unity thrive.” Learn more in the full article below! #staffingindustry #leadershipsearch #DEI #increasediversity
