𝗢𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗣𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗤𝗟 As businesses strive for data-driven decisions, having clear insights into sales performance is crucial. Recently, I tackled an interesting problem from DataLemur 🐒 (Ace the SQL & Data Interview) (created by Nick Singh 📕🐒) for CVS Health to understand pharmacy sales and manufacturer performance better. Here’s how I approached it using SQL: 𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲: Calculate the total drug sales for each manufacturer, round to the nearest million, and display results in a format suitable for business dashboards. 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: 𝘚𝘌𝘓𝘌𝘊𝘛 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘳, 𝘊𝘖𝘕𝘊𝘈𝘛 ('$', 𝘙𝘖𝘜𝘕𝘋(𝘚𝘜𝘔(𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭_𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴) / 1000000), ' 𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘪𝘰𝘯') 𝘈𝘚 𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘦 𝘍𝘙𝘖𝘔 𝘱𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘺_𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴 𝘎𝘙𝘖𝘜𝘗 𝘉𝘠 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘳 𝘖𝘙𝘋𝘌𝘙 𝘉𝘠 𝘚𝘜𝘔(𝘵𝘰𝘵𝘢𝘭_𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘦𝘴) 𝘋𝘌𝘚𝘊, 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘧𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘳 𝘈𝘚𝘊; 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: This query aggregates the total sales per manufacturer, rounds the result to the nearest million, and formats it for clear visibility on dashboards. Sorting by total sales in descending order ensures that the top-performing manufacturers are highlighted first. In the case of ties, the manufacturers are sorted alphabetically. 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗰𝘁: • Provides a clear, concise overview of sales performance by manufacturer. • Enables stakeholders to quickly identify leading manufacturers. • Facilitates data-driven decision-making for inventory and marketing strategies. Sometime simple query muddle me. Write a query to calculate the total drug sales for each manufacturer. Round the answer to the nearest million and report your results in descending order of total sales. In case of any duplicates, sort them alphabetically by the manufacturer name.
