All 435 U.S. House of Representative seats are on the ballot for November’s general elections. While Republicans currently hold a majority in the chamber, Democrats need a net gain of just four seats to take control. Inside Elections LLC rates 10 races as toss-ups and 18 more either tilt Democratic or Republican, so the balance of power in the House could go either way. In a 30-minute lightning round, CQ and Roll Call campaign reporters Daniela Altimari and Mary Ellen McIntire share insights from the Hill to help you better prepare and amplify your strategy for the election year. The Carter Center and Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy identified 10 guiding principles that are crucial to a healthy election system everywhere — even as individual policies and procedures continue to vary from community to community. The goal is to provide a framework on a national level for bipartisan and effective policies that balance what is required for Americans to have faith in their elections and the twin needs for equitable access and integrity of the results. The quickest path to responsible government and accountable politicians is through OPEN and competitive #elections. That's why Veterans for Idaho Voters (V4IV) is fighting to bring the Alaska Election Model to the Gem state in 2024 (read more below). In 2024, 8-10 states will have ballot amendments or legislation to reform their uncompetitive election systems. It's no surprise that party bosses and political elites from BOTH major parties oppose these reform efforts. Right now, over 85% of our November elections are not competitive. Even worse, our primary election process is closed, or semi-closed to Independent #voters like me. Independent voters pay taxes that help fund public primary elections, but they can't fully participate. #taxationwithoutrepresentation In most states, primary #elections (the first round of voting) are neither democratic nor representative of what a majority of voters want. Join Veterans for All Voters and the Independent Reform Movement, today, on our mission to implement REAL structural solutions to America's "primary problem." Onward!

The #RankedChoiceVoting Act would bring #RCV to Congressional elections! Last month, Congressman Jamie Raskin (MD-08) and Congressman Don Beyer (VA-08) renewed their efforts to bring ranked choice voting to U.S. congressional elections, reintroducing their Ranked Choice Voting Act. Office of U.S. Senator Peter Welch (D-VT) introduced companion legislation in the Senate. The #RCVAct would: ✅ Require the use of RCV for all U.S. Congressional primary and general elections starting in 2028 ✅ Eliminate the use of runoff elections in the 10 states that currently use them for U.S. Congressional elections ✅ Make payments to states for the implementation of RCV such as updating voting machines and software Take action to support the #RCVAct 👉 https://lnkd.in/eQg9uFJ4

It's #NationalVoterRegistrationDay and this means YOU TOO senior adults!!! Older Americans are one of the most powerful voting blocs in U.S. elections. More than half of the electorate in the 2016 elections were over 50. Senior voters typically make up an even bigger share of Americans casting ballots in mid-term elections. Some analysts believe older voters will determine who controls the House and Senate in the 116th Congress. There are myriad reasons why older citizens come out to vote – especially in mid-terms – at higher rates than their younger counterparts, including a greater sense of voting as a civic duty and a recognition they have an important stake in every election. For much of the 20th century, seniors largely supported the Democratic party – for some very good reasons. Read the full article here - https://lnkd.in/e5G-23tH
