Walking SA attended the Conservation SA 'Civil Society Lunch with the Premier'- a lunchtime discussion with the Premier of South Australia, Peter Malinauskas, about the needs of civil society to provide for healthy democracies. As a member of the conservation council, Walking SA were invited to participate in the discussion. Key takeaways are: * The need to strengthen civil society to find common ground and not enable divisive interests to prosper at the expense of the common good. * The role of nature, heritage and culture as fertile ground to bring people together and to ensure a sustainable and equitable future. * The need to reprioritise government spending to invest in the very things otherwise taken for granted - think re-distribution of wealth, preservation of natural resources and wild places, and environmental and cultural stewardship. Stop the Steal of Elitism Taking OUR 30A Beaches. Nearly 700 Members and GROWING. 10 Things You Can Do to Help Today. 1. Invite 10 people you know to join our FB group locally and nationally. 2. Invite 10 people you know to sign our petition locally and nationally. 3. Post twice a month a month on your FB pages and other social media. 4. Get excited and talk to at least 10 people about freeing our beaches locally and nationally. 5. Write the Governor, your state representative and state Senator. 6. Use your contacts at radio stations, newspapers, county Commissioners, television stations, regional and national media news outlets. 7. Be thinking about the best way to motivate the community to gather. I envision us meeting in front of beachfront properties who are most problematic carrying signage for both that day and future events. 8. Help procure a source for signage and how we all can order/procur. 9. Locate a source where all can order hats, t shirts, jackets, bumper stickers, insulated cups and other promotional items with our logo (coming soon). 10. As you brainstorm together, you might develop new ways to reduce your environmental footprint, inspiring each other to go further in your sustainability efforts. 5. **Shared Responsibility**: Environmental issues are complex and require collective action. With like-minded local partners, you can share the responsibility of implementing and promoting green initiatives, making it easier to achieve significant outcomes. 6. **Stronger Relationships**: Sharing core values, especially around something as important as the environment, builds trust and deeper relationships.
