This week’s “Where Does It Go?” might be a little tricky! Ever wonder where to put your plastic utensils after use? 🍴 (Hint: it might not be the cart you’d expect) While people oftentimes think “plastic” means that these single-use plastic utensils are recyclable… that unfortunately is not true. Plastic utensils belong in your black-lid, landfill cart. Plastic, single-use utensils are a major contributor to ocean waste, so we encourage you to opt for reusable options! 🌊 Let us know what other items you’d like to see featured on “Where Does It Go?” #wheredoesitgo #wasteservices #recycleright #recycle #sustainability #crr #environmentalservices

Did you know? Every minute, a million plastic bottles are bought worldwide! In 2016, over 480 billion were sold—enough to reach halfway to the sun. 😱 Sadly, less than half get recycled, and just 7% become new bottles. Most end up in landfills or the ocean. 🚫🌊 Between 5 to 13 million tons of plastic enter our oceans yearly, harming marine life. 🐟 By 2050, experts predict more plastic than fish in the ocean. It's high time we take action! Let's ditch the habit of buying water bottles and switch to carrying our own reusable water bottles. 🌍💧 📸 @neal_grundy @behance #plasticsolution #environmentaldiscovery #microplastics

Rewind to the beginning of this year; in line with our internal sustainable packaging guidelines, we announced our commitment to ensure our entire portfolio of packaging be recyclable, compostable, reusable or bio-sourced by 2025. Work towards achieving that is in full swing: 🌿 Our West Coast Cooler Original and Rosé 750ml bottles now boast eco-friendly paper labels, while the 250ml bottles have transitioned to aluminium cans. 🔄 Result? A remarkable annual cut of 27.81T of plastic. 🥂 Most of our Jameson Original 50ml bottles have bid farewell to shrink-wrapped trays, making way for board boxes. 🔄 This small switch equals a 0.45T plastic reduction every year. 🌍 Overall Impact: A whopping 28.26T less plastic annually. Removing single-use plastic from our packaging not only shrinks our carbon footprint but also keeps plastic out of our waste streams, preventing it from reaching landfills. 🚫 Our production sites uphold a zero waste to landfill policy. Over 200,000 pallets of dry goods, 110 million bottles, and not a speck of waste to landfill. Glass bottles come in with reusable plastic layer pads, preventing unnecessary waste. 🔄 We've scrutinized all on-site packaging, exploring recyclability and seeking alternatives to non-recyclable components. 🌿 The journey continues in 2024! #IrishDistillers #Sustainability

Four Tips to Get You Recycling Like a Pro Rinse out contaminants from containers and jars: Take a few seconds to remove any food or residue left in containers. This ensures they are accepted at the recycling plant and don't contaminate the rest of the items in your bin. Broken glass belongs in the garbage, not the recycling: Although glass is highly recyclable, once it’s broken, it becomes hazardous to process. Make sure to keep broken glass out of the recycling bin. Plastic bags don’t go in the recycling bin: While many people use plastic bags to collect recyclables, it’s important to remove them from the bin before pickup or drop-off. Plastic bags can jam machinery at recycling facilities. Pizza boxes and soiled tissues aren’t recyclable: Though paper products are generally recyclable, items contaminated with grease or food, like pizza boxes and tissues, are not. These should go in the green bin for composting instead of recycling. #plasticfree #reducereuserecycle #climateaction #zerowaste #ecoconcious #plasticfreejuly #singleuseplastic #ecofriendly

When you leave for work in the morning you can look out for empty plastic bottles. It is something simple you can do and you almost always find them on the street. There’s no reason why you can’t do it on the way back home too. An everyday plastic bottle pick up is a good daily action, it's rewarding and can inspire others not to litter around and even reduce their consumption of plastic water bottles. HOW TO RECYCLE PLASTIC BOTTLES Replace lids and tops. If they stay on the container they will get recycled. Squash bottles to save space. Empty and rinse bottles. Left over foods or liquids can contaminate other recyclables and if bottles contain liquid they may not be recycled as deemed too heavy by the automated sorting process. Liquid can also damage the machinery. Leave on labels – the recycling plant will remove them in the process. DID YOU KNOW? As an estimate, people use an average of 35.8 million plastic bottles EVERY DAY in the UK, but recycle plants only recycle 19.8 million each day. This means there are on average 16 million plastic bottles a day not making their way into the recycling bin. Data from Recyclenow.com #plasticwaterbottles #plasticfree #cleanup #litter #recycling

Plastic packaging has traditionally received bad press - but perceptions of it are changing because its eco-friendly credentials are finally being realised: ♻️💚 ◾ Plastic does NOT make up the majority of packaging waste (that’ll be paper and carton) ◾ PET plastic is extremely easy to recycle for further use. ◾ LESS carbon is omitted when producing PET bottles than glass bottles. ◾ Our PET plastic bottles are 15% lighter than they were 15 years ago and plastic packaging is on average 25% lighter than it was 30 years ago; lighter plastic packaging means a smaller carbon footprint. 👣 ◾ Increasingly less plastic is ending up in landfill - by switching from virgin to 30-100% recycled material in the last 2 years alone, we’ve saved hundreds of tonnes of plastic from going to landfill! And that’s just us! ♻️ From our Zero PPT products to our 100% recycled ECycle™ range, at Cambrian we’re constantly looking for ways to make our plastic packaging more sustainable. Get in touch to see how we can help you upgrade your packaging and up your eco-friendly game. I’m often looked down by people to whom I say that we are into MANUFACTURING of PLASTIC tarpaulin sheets. That is because they dont know that we UPCYCLE these plastic tarpaulin sheets from post industrial and post consumer LDPE plastic waste. Let me take you on a journey through of our process. It starts with collecting plastic waste that would otherwise harm our environment—items like misprinted milk pouches, used courier bags, diaper bags and every other poly bags in which number 4 is printed on the recycle ♻️ logo. These discarded plastics are sorted then lables and stickers are removed from them by hand and then shredded into tiny flakes, ready for their transformation. Next, these flakes are melted into a thick, gooey substance. This molten plastic is extruded into long and thin threads which are cut into granules. These granules are then blown into large films using a specialized machine. The blowing process is mesmerizing to watch, as the plastic expands and forms smooth, even sheets. These blown films are then cooled and rolled out, creating long sheets of durable tarpaulin. To ensure strength and weather resistance, the sheets are sometimes layered and sealed together, creating a tough, versatile material. The final tarpaulin sheets are cut to size and prepared for their many uses—from rain water harvesting and rain coverings to providing emergency shelter. By upcycling plastic waste, we're not just making tarps—we're helping to clean up the planet. Every sheet we produce keeps plastic out of landfills and oceans. It's a small step that makes a big difference. Turning trash into something truly useful. Let's celebrate the magic of recycling and the positive impact we can make! #RecyclingMagic #EcoFriendly #PlasticWaste #SustainableLiving #TarpaulinProduction #WasteToWorth #GreenManufacturing #EnvironmentalImpact #Upcycling #RecycledMaterials #PlasticRecycling #TarpaulinSheets #EcoProducts #SustainableInnovation
