Together we are stronger. The benefits of being a smaller organization are many and when they can be retained at the same time as we collaborate with others, both as small and larger, so much can be accomplished. In the picture below you see representation of the 26 partners in the European project COUNTERACT as we met to kick-off year two of our four year project visiting the coordinating part CEA Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives in Paris. The project aims to reinforce the European Union’s preparedness for nuclear, radiological, biological and chemical (#NRBC) threats. In the sub-projects where CR contributes we get to collaborate mainly with the Norwegian defence research establishment Forsvarets forskningsinstitutt - FFI, the company SoftOx Solutions AS but also academic groups in Denmark, France, Poland and Ireland. In this project we get to contribute with expertise and experience helpful for formulation challenges, material selection, analytical method development and stability studies as well as supplying our partners with the material needed for their expert areas. From CR, the project is led by Frida Terne (project management) and Henrik Almqvist (scientific responsibility). If you are considering a larger more strategic development and look for a smart partner, don't hesitate to contact us for a first discussion. If we believe in the cause and that we can contribute, we could do great things #together. European Defence Fund #antimicrobialresistance #antiviral

Delighted to share the publication of my paper, "Integration Deterrence in the Asia-Pacific: Exploring Medium Power Strategic Autonomy," in JSSA Strategic Vision Institute (Official). Link: https://lnkd.in/dYKxAeCr DOI: https://lnkd.in/dj8J4mtq "The research emphasizes competing great powers establishing networked-security theatres, designating medium powers as crucial stakeholders in contested maritime zones. Integrated deterrence, achieved via strategic technology exchange and nuclear denial, prompts regional states to evaluate the strategic impact on medium power autonomy in the Asia-Pacific, shaping their role in the emerging multi-polar order. It stresses on Japan and Australia as significant proximate states in addition to India and Pakistan from traditional Rimland states."

Ward Wilson is a friend of mine. He comes from the completely opposite side of the nuclear weapons discussion, but in our limited times talking, we have enjoyed several hours of conversation and getting to know each other. . His new book “It is Possible: A Future without Nuclear Weapons” is a very good constructivist approach to #nuclearweapons and the understanding underlying the decision space. He argues that the weapons are fundamentally symbols in the international relations world that have been mis-valued and represent a false narrative of reality. Therefore he argues the construct is flimsy and does not reflect reality as seen through his review of history and current understanding. . There are good points in this book and it does provide the reader a basic understanding of how nukes are used. Though a deeper dive into some of the facets show some of the weakness in his argument. I do recommend this to people to read … more from the construct explaining the overall concepts. . I am writing a book review for #AirSpaceOperationsReview and submitting it by the end of the month. . Good work Ward on a solid project. Proud to call you a colleague even though we disagree. . #predsreadinglist #nukes #globalzero #nuclear

I am excited to share the completion of my latest research project, "The Political Reckoning in a Post-Nuclear Use Landscape," prepared for the project “Reducing the Risk of Nuclear Weapon Use in Northeast Asia.” This comprehensive analysis was made possible through the collaboration and co-sponsorship of the Research Center for Nuclear Weapons Abolition, Nagasaki University (RECNA), the Nautilus Institute for Security and Sustainability, and the Asia-Pacific Leadership Network for Nuclear Non-Proliferation and Disarmament (APLN), with invaluable support from the Panel on Peace and Security of Northeast Asia (PSNA). This project was generously funded by the MacArthur Foundation and the New Land Foundation. The study delves into the profound political ramifications of potential nuclear use in Northeast Asia, offering crucial insights into the evolving dynamics of nuclear deterrence, the role of emerging technologies, and the imperative of substantive dialogues on arms control and conflict resolution. As we navigate these volatile times, I hope this work will contribute to the discourse on creating a safer, nuclear-free world. Please engage with the APLN project here: https://lnkd.in/dzeeMthH #NuclearNonProliferation #NuclearDisarmament #NuclearWeapons #NuclearTaboo #NuclearUse #APLN #RECNA #NautilusInstitute #ArmsControl #ConflictResolution

[Geopolitics]: 🇫🇷 🇸🇪 A special Franco-Swedish relationship serving European cooperation? 🤔 🌍️ The idea of a rapprochement between the two countries may seem unusual, but we show, in our report, that in a context of a tense and uncertain world, differences within the Franco-German axis and the restructuring of Europe, increased cooperation between the two nations would prove to be mutually beneficial. 🚀This is particularly true in the strategic fields of security, space and nuclear power. Prepared under the direction of Claude Revel, Director of SKEMA Publika, and produced by Sean Scull, Project manager at the think tank, this report is the result of an analysis of the historical links and converging interests between #Paris and #Stockholm Read the full report here👇 https://lnkd.in/e_N7BNjd

From mid-December 2023 to mid-March 2024, I penned five articles, both short and long, focusing on #NuclearDisarmament. Each piece delved into the imperative of universalizing the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (#TPNW). The bottom line of these articles underscores the imperative for the TPNW to undergo #canonization, #securitization, and #weaponization, primarily by the Treaty’s states parties, but also involving its state and non-state advocates. While these three interconnected strategies may not work magic, they hold the potential to invigorate the TPNW's universalization efforts with a fresh momentum. As I prepare to present an expanded iteration of these works at the upcoming annual cross-disciplinary conference Reinvigorating Nuclear Disarmament, to be hosted by the Alva Myrdal Centre for Nuclear Disarmament at Uppsala University in June, 𝑰 𝒂𝒎 𝒆𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 𝒓𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒊𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒇𝒖𝒍 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒃𝒂𝒄𝒌 𝒐𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒌𝒆𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒈𝒖𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑰'𝒗𝒆 𝒑𝒖𝒕 𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒉. An important issue that the Massachusetts Medical Society and Greater Boston Physicians for Social Responsibility has also drawn attention to this year: the health risks of nuclear development (see https://lnkd.in/eGZvbXZB). It is encouraging to see that clinical studies are now being done to look at the cancer incidence among those who work on nuclear test sites. The climate risks of these sites should also be assessed and addressed, because they are under-studied and a significant concern given the rapidly changing world environment and vulnerability of these sites. #publichealthmatters #nuclearweapons #MAPA #PSR #mms https://lnkd.in/eGZvbXZB

It’s almost Independence Day for us, but for our neighbors to the north, it’s #CanadaDay, when they honor their history and celebrate their culture and achievements. Coincidentally, it’s also the 10th anniversary of our International Policy Statement. This important document is a public acknowledgement of the importance of international engagement on our activities here at home. Today, our Office of International Programs works with dozens of countries around the world, supporting both independent nuclear regulatory programs and U.S. foreign policy objectives. One of our success stories is the ongoing work we do with Canada under our Memorandum of Cooperation on small modular reactor activities. For more about our global activities, including the policy statement and our international strategy, go here: https://lnkd.in/g7dUF3YF
