Despite the increasing need, Black Americans have less access to #opioid use disorder treatment and recovery services than white Americans. #FOREgrantee Center for African American Recovery Development is looking to fix this, by helping to develop four new Black-led recovery community organizations to address a wide array of health inequities we see in access to substance use treatment and recovery support services. We know that solutions to the nation’s #opioidcrisis will not be successful without explicitly addressing the racial disparities in our systems of #prevention, #treatment, and #recovery. #BlackHistoryMonth
To kick off #BlackHistoryMonth, we're excited to spotlight #FOREgrantee the Center for African American Recovery Development (CAARD) as they help Black leaders in three urban areas (Memphis, Mobile and New Orleans) and one rural community (Orangeburg County, South Carolina) establish #recovery programs serving their communities.

Organizations can set the stage for evidence-informed decisions by building strong #EvidenceCapacity. Evidence capacity encompasses the knowledge, skills, behaviors, and resources that support an organization’s ability to build and use evidence to make decisions and inform its work. Like actors rehearsing a play or athletes practicing their sport, organizations must hone their skills over time to develop #evidence capacity. Learn more about some of the work OPRE does to support the Administration for Children and Families (ACF)'s evidence capacity and some of the lessons we have learned: https://lnkd.in/etPYRYGR

All qualified organizations seeking to become adult day services providers, as well as existing adult day services providers seeking to expand their services, are eligible to apply for the available grant funds, which are being offered by the Ohio Office of Budget and Management (OBM) at the direction of ODA. Successful applicants will be eligible to spend their funding in multiple areas. New adult day services providers or those re-entering the market can use these funds for equipment, supplies, start-up fees, or infrastructure modifications required for initial operations. Existing adult day services providers can use these funds to enhance service delivery by adding new benefits not previously offered. They can also use the funds to support long-term sustainment in the industry. This could include equipment or facility upgrades to accommodate a larger capacity served, as well as technology implementation and other efficiency efforts. Providers can also use funds to recruit and retain a qualified workforce – including through means such as offering current staff a retention bonus, offering new staff a hiring bonus, hiring new direct care workers, and recruiting new direct care workers. Interested organizations can apply through the OBM website. Successful applicants will be eligible for technical assistance support, provided by LeadingAge Ohio in collaboration with ODA. For more information, visit aging.ohio.gov/adultday 😊💙❤️💜💚

An advocate will not be silenced by those made uncomfortable by their truth telling. An advocate will not be silenced because someone else is ignorant of who and what a predator is. An advocate makes people uncomfortable in their comfortableness. An advocate shines a spotlight on a perpetrator/predator, so that another will have the support they need from that perpetrator/predator. An advocate is an educator, an exposer, a supporter, a light, and a voice for us; helping Someone harmed to the point where their voice, temporarily, cannot be heard or used. An advocate is a trauma fighter holding up another they may not even know so that that person knows someone cares about them. You have an opportunity to be an advocate.
