I've never had one of my direct reports ask me for a raise in over 20 years. Why? Because I always made sure, based on their achievements and contributions, they were paid their worth. If that meant providing a salary increase mid-year, outside the annual review process, then that's what I would do. Overall, hourly pay seems like it provides more stability and flexibility, but it can also be a waste of your life and time depending on your situation. Commission-based pay can be more motivating and have a higher earning potential but it’s important to have a proven system because you can waste a lot of time and energy trying to earn commissions if you don’t have the right system, Training, coaching, or leadership development. Choosing between the two depends on your individual preferences. Just like prospecting people in the wrong market can lead to a lot of frustration, prospecting people in the right market can lead to massive amounts of people being helped in positive and healthy ways.
