The UK Government's proposed Criminal Justice Bill threatens to criminalise homelessness, imposing fines up to £2,500 on individuals who are simply trying to survive on the streets.
Homelessness is not a choice. It's often the result of systemic failures, such as poverty, family breakdowns, or sudden job loss due to illness. Yet, instead of addressing the root causes and providing support, this bill seeks to punish those already facing immense challenges.
As a St Mungo's worker, I am committed to ending homelessness, I strongly oppose the criminalisation of those experiencing homelessness. No one should fear prosecution simply for seeking shelter or a place to rest.
Homelessness could happen to any of us. Life is unpredictable, and circumstances can change in an instant. That's why it's crucial for us to stand together and oppose this cruel and unnecessary legislation.
I urge you to join me in taking action. Click the link below to email your MP and demand they speak out against the criminalisation of homelessness. Together, we can make our voices heard and ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and respect, regardless of their housing status.

Let's be a voice for those who are often silenced and overlooked. Together, we can create a society where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Andy has previously slept rough. He explains why criminalising homelessness is the last thing we should do.
He says that the Government's planned new laws that would threaten people sleeping rough with a fine or even prison will 'only push people further from the support they need' - and Andy would know. He's dedicated his life to supporting people out of homelessness.
In this powerful video, he explains the reality of sleeping on the streets, and how you can join the fight to stop the proposed laws in the Criminal Justice Bill from becoming a reality.
