3 Director of Automation candidates… Not one was hired. But every resume had the “right buzzwords”: IIoT, PLC, VFD, etc. Those buzzwords are just that… Nothing more than buzzwords. Especially if you don’t truly understand them as a recruiter. Which is why this company needed our help… Their previous recruiter was nothing but buzzword focused. A >100 employee company needed a Director of Automation who is both strategic and tactical out on the floor and “in the weeds” with engineering projects - designing full systems. The resumes they were receiving from a recruiter had all the buzzwords, exaggerated skills, but none of the actual desirable experience. Until they partnered with us. Our intake call uncovered somewhat unique needs for this job title, but not the size of the company. Having been down this road previously, we knew exactly what to look for. Being industry experts, we not only knew which companies had Automation Directors doing this work, but also which companies had low employee satisfaction. This led to many conversations and ultimately presenting 2 ideal candidates and hiring one. And we didn’t waste their time because we didn’t know how to tell the difference between buzzwords on a resume and real professional experience.
