🌍 Innovative Infrastructure in the Faroe Islands: The Underwater Roundabout and Sandoy Tunnel The Faroe Islands have made international headlines with the construction of the world's first underwater roundabout, located in the recently opened Eysturoy Tunnel (11.2 km). This roundabout, artistically illuminated and designed, resembles a jellyfish situated 72 meters below the Atlantic Ocean for a cost of around 1 billion DKK. In addition to the amazing roundabout, I also experienced a remarkable feat of engineering and infrastructure. The completed Sandoy Tunnel, an 11 km long tunnel that connects the islands of Streymoy and Sandoy, is an achievement that not only improves communication and accessibility but also sets a new standard for cost-effectiveness. Completing such a project for less than 860 million DKK is nothing short of a technical and economic triumph. These projects are not just technological, economical and logistical achievements; they also represent a significant investment in the region's future, which will promote economic growth, tourism, and improved living conditions for the residents. Port of Long Beach Revs Up for “Year of Rail” in 2024: Modernization, Sustainability in Focus Long Beach, CA: The Port of Long Beach is chugging into the "Year of Rail" in 2024, with a focus on modernizing facilities, boosting air quality, and ultimately becoming the world's first zero-emissions seaport. CEO Mario Cordero laid out the ambitious plan in his State of the Port Address, highlighting the Pier B On-Dock Rail Support Facility as the centerpiece. This state-of-the-art terminal, set for construction this year, will double Pier B's rail yard size, triple on-dock rail capacity, and move freight faster and cleaner. "It is not just about operational efficiency", Cordero emphasized. "By 2030, we'll be a zero-emission port, a model for sustainability."
