When a/an RECRUITER/HR requests you WALK THEM THROUGH YOUR RESUME (NOT CV). How do you answer that? Okay, here's the thing; I know majority would start from the BEGINNING of their CAREER lol. Yeah, everyone'd want to give a CHRONOLOGICAL ANSWER but this could be boring. Instead, BRIEFLY DESCRIBE WHAT YOU DO FIRST. Tell him/her your MOST EXCITING ACCOMPLISHMENT. And why YOU'RE PASSIONATE ABOUT THE JOB YOU'RE APPLYING FOR. USE REVERSE-CHRONOLOGICAL ANSWER. That is, START FROM YOUR RECENT JOBS and how that (previous) JOB TRIGGERED YOUR PASSION FOR so so and so (WHAT YOU'RE APPLYING FOR) #freelancing #careerdevelopment #freelance

Being a parent with a dented minivan was my career for 12 years. It was the longest job I have had in 30+ years. Granted, there was some part-part-time freelance writing during that time, but most of my paycheck came as free hugs from three kids, free laughter as they learned to swing higher and higher at the park playground, and free snuggles on the couch as we watched Thomas the Train DVDs over and over. When re-entering full-time paid employment, I wondered how to explain the decade-plus gap on the resume. Freelance writer? Consultant? Full-time at-home parent? And this is what I know now after 10 years back in the workforce: The job label isn’t what matters the most. It is the skills acquired from life experience. That resume gap is okay. If this is part of your professional journey, know this: During that time, you learned, you grew, and had the time to seek out opportunities. Most importantly, your life became more than a job title. For 12 years, my coworkers were children and the family dog. No job title, other than Me the Mommy. Those were the years of my resume gap. Amazing years.
