🌍🌱 Lohmann's LinerLoop Concept for Paper Liner Recycling Shines at the Going Circular Competition 🏆 We are thrilled to have been among the finalists at the prestigious Going Circular Competition, organized by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Cologne in collaboration with VDI Kölner Bezirksverein e.V., VDE Cologne, and Innovationsstandort :metabolon. This esteemed event celebrates companies that are driving initiatives towards a circular economy, providing a platform to showcase sustainable practices and innovative strength. Under the patronage of Mona Neubaur, Minister for Economy, Small Business, Energy, and Climate Protection of North Rhine-Westphalia, the competition recognizes the importance of sustainable solutions. ♻️ Our LinerLoop project, a game-changer in paper liner recycling, impressed the jury and received recognition for its significant contribution to the circular economy. We had the opportunity to present our concept during the Circular Economy Forum alongside other exceptional finalists on May 22. It was inspiring to witness the collective commitment to sustainability. 💭 With LinerLoop, we address the pressing issue of liner waste, which occupies a vast area globally, equivalent to 1.5 times the size of Switzerland. Annually, the adhesive tape industry alone generates approximately 8,472 square meters of liner waste. Through collaboration with UPM Specialty Papers, we foster cooperation and co-creation to support customers in transitioning to recyclable paper liners and ensuring recyclability. Furthermore, we have established a network of recycling providers to collect the waste, striving to significantly reduce industry-wide waste volumes. Evert Smit, Director of Scouting at Lohmann, emphasized the significance of the project, stating, "We knew that recycling carrier materials had to be part of our sustainability plan. We wanted to take the first step and set a new standard for our industry. We now hope that others in the adhesive tape industry will follow suit and join forces in advocating for sustainability." 🤝 Being a finalist at the Going Circular Competition underscores our commitment to environmentally friendly innovations and our contribution to a sustainable future. We remain dedicated to strengthening our position as pioneers in the adhesive tape industry, driving innovative solutions that reduce environmental impact and promote the circular economy. At KURZ, sustainability isn't just a buzzword – it's ingrained in everything we do. Today, we're thrilled to share three key facts about our sustainable embellishment practices: 1️⃣ No Plastic Film: Unlike the general perception of metallization, our transfer products do not transfer a plastic film. Only a thin, dry lacquer is transferred, while the transfer carrier is peeled off during application. 2️⃣ Minimal Material: We're committed to reducing our environmental footprint by minimizing material usage. That's why we've cut down our transfer carrier material from 12µm down to just 6µm, bringing less material into the industrial cycle. 3️⃣ Recycling Innovation: Introducing KURZ RECOSYS® – our cutting-edge recycling system. With RECOSYS® 2.0, used transfer carrier material can be recycled, transforming it into valuable raw material known as RECOSYS® rPET. At KURZ, sustainability isn't just a goal – it's a journey. Join us as we continue to innovate and pave the way for a circular, more eco-conscious future. Together, we can make a difference. July Fourth was an opportunity to reflect on and share more about EcoEnclose's focus on domestic manufacturing - how this commitment supports our vision of #circularity and recognize its tradeoffs. While EcoEnclose has a robust global manufacturing network (and often provides enterprise brands with overseas produced packaging to balance their circularity and budget needs), we generally prioritize domestic manufacturing to support our vision for circularity. Learn more about why: https://lnkd.in/gnGTfJMf This commitment specifically: 👉 Means we are sourcing #PCW generated here in the US - reusing the #waste our communities are producing to create new goods. Shipping recycled content to Asia to be remanufactured into goods sold back to us was never a tenable solution for recycling, as the China Sword policy reinforced. Sourcing domestic waste drives localized investments in recycling infrastructure - supporting our goal to one day make all packaging out of packaging. 👉 Has given us more visibility and transparency when we trace where our recycled content actually comes from. 👉 Has allowed us to innovate more quickly and collaboratively, as our domestic plants have been more quick to adopt cutting edge materials such as Living Ink #algaeink and Sway seaweed film. 👉 Helps provide strong employment opportunities in our own backyard, strengthens our supply chain, and supports our broader vision for geopolitical independence and resilience. For brands who need overseas produced packaging in order to minimize costs or because the packaging is actually needed at your factories - we do have you covered! We'll simply share the pros and cons of different manufacturing locations when it comes to circularity (as well as costs, lead times, and more) to help you make the right decision for your brand.
