"Can you chat?" We all know that heart-sinking moment. Even though we remind ourselves it’s just part of the professional world, it still feels like a punch to the gut. Losing a star team member hurts! It’s not just about replacing them—it’s the time, energy, and effort to find someone just as brilliant, get them trained up, and fully integrated. And let’s not forget the awkward moment of breaking the news to the rest of the team, hoping it doesn’t spark a chain reaction. But here’s the thing: while it’s tough, it’s also totally normal—and survivable. In her latest blog, Mandy Gilbert, our Founder & CEO, shares practical advice to help you navigate these conversations with confidence and come out stronger on the other side. 💡 Check it out here: https://lnkd.in/gnpTnHQQ

There are a lot of action items and things to think about in this week's list of Ally Actions. After Monday, it becomes clear that effective DEI practices are left to good individuals, managers, and companies. In fact, I believe that was always the case. There is a much better definition of "masculine energy" in this list at number 4.

Change doesn’t happen overnight, and it’s rarely straightforward. While there's no one-size-fits-all approach, Bianca Walsh-Benn's latest blog details her recent process for improving how our team approaches R&D to help you make meaningful changes within your team. Working with Nick Holcombe, she's embodied our company values, running with this project to validate the 'why' and implement the 'how' while gathering feedback from the team to ensure any changes stayed aligned with the goals. Thank you both for your incredible work on this! 💪 https://lnkd.in/exX-uWVU

There’s something new (and very specific) my team and I just started doing ↓ We officially have a 20-minute block on the calendar every day of the week called “Big Rock”. We have an accompanying text thread. Why? We implemented this on our team call last week after discussing the number of things that end up taking the back burner (or never getting done) for no good reason other than that they’re not receiving dedicated focus. The “big rocks” that need specific attention and most importantly, ACTION, to start turning them over. Things like… → finalizing the proposal → making the phone call(s) → recording the video → updating the pipeline Our dedicated text thread is a place to send specific things IN THE MOMENT – like when I meet someone awesome at an event and want to make sure I connect with them here on LinkedIn. I put it in the text thread so we can make sure it happens…and so it doesn’t just stay in the crazy world of BillyB’s brain. This may be a thing we end up doing forever…or we might decide we hate it by Wednesday and nix it altogether. Either way, I love trying new things with my team. Things to sharpen us and make us better. → What’s something new you’ve tried with your team that was a huge success OR a huge “nope…never doing that again”? Tell me in the comments!

'KEEP OUR HEARTH WARM' So sang Mitski on the opener of 'Bury me at Makeout Creek' (look it up...). Our hearth will be warm next Friday afternoon at 4pm GMT, ready to receive you at our monthly, open Humanness fireside chat on zoom. Quinn Stainfield-Bruce, Axel Ferreyrolles and I will be chatting with the curious about the emergent reset on human qualities in business. We will bathe in the warm glow of EY and Saïd Business School, University of Oxford's report: 'The Future of Transformation is Human'. It gives categoric evidence - as if any were needed beyond common sense - that we can only drive sustainable performance if it starts with engaging and aligning the humans in our organisations. There isn't a business right now that is not wrestling with extracting greater performance from a workforce that is disconnecting and burned out from the pressures of the workplace, let alone the toxic uncertainty of the world. The question is how to re-engage and re-align our people. Curious? Then pull up a chair for some festive cheer. The QR code on the attached tile will link you right up to our zoom. Join us. #humanness #firesidechat #thehearth #curiosity
