Bringing Academic Events to Life with Design | Research Carnival 2025 Poster 🎨 Proud to share my latest work: the poster design for Research Carnival 2025, hosted by the Department of Linguistics and Communications at UMT-SLA. This design highlights a dynamic and engaging academic event with a professional yet vibrant visual identity. The Research Carnival 2025 is a two-day event that includes thought-provoking webinars, insightful workshops, and expert guest speakers. The design had to reflect the academic integrity of UMT while creating excitement and engagement for participants. The goal was to create a clean and professional layout that: - Ensures clear communication of event details (dates, times, locations, and speakers). - Captures the essence of intellectual discovery with a modern and vibrant aesthetic. - Aligns with UMT’s academic brand identity. Tools Used: Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator Skills Applied: Typography, Layout Design, Event Branding, and Visual Hierarchy This project reinforced the importance of visual storytelling in event branding. Starting the New Semester: Insights from My New Courses As the Winter Semester 2024/25 begins, I am excited to continue my journey as a lecturer at Macromedia University of Applied Sciences in Munich, where I will be teaching two dynamic courses: 💡 “Innovation by Design – Practice” In this course, we dive into the key developments in innovation, creativity, ethics, and design. Through practical exercises, students learn how these concepts drive business success and shape the future of industries. Understanding these dynamics is crucial for any professional navigating today’s fast-changing landscape. 📖 “Layout and Typography” Typography isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s a critical tool for communication. In this course, students master the foundations of typographic design and apply their knowledge in a final project, creating posters that showcase both creativity and technical skills. These skills are essential for any modern communicator or designer. I focus on helping my students bridge theory with practice, ensuring that they not only understand key concepts but can also apply them effectively in real-world situations. I believe these courses equip them with tools they need to succeed in the evolving professional landscape. Looking forward to an exciting semester of learning and creativity! 💪🏼

Is design school worth it? The answer is actually... inside you Before deciding, ask yourself: Why do you want to go to design school? to earn or to learn. Design school teaches you essentials like design principles, color theory, typography, project critiques, and even the history of design. But what they don’t teach is crucial too: How to set your prices, handle taxes, market yourself, and communicate with clients. It’s a reality—most schools just don’t cover how to make a living from your skills "It might seem tough, but these are skills you’ll need to learn on your own. But, there are real benefits to designing a school too! You’ll make connections, work with professional mentors, collaborate on projects, and access valuable resources. School gives you the knowledge and helps you specialize. But how you apply it that’s where earning comes in. A week after TCCAC 2024, I got to *attend* a design conference! It was perfect timing going from working a conference to attending Circles Conference and being surrounded by other creatives. I'm so glad that I got to hear from incredible designers in different industries. Some of my main takeaways were: - Natalie Kent's talk about grit and perseverance through the design process (especially when things get hard) and a reminder that design is a group project - Kevin Ely's notes on asking the right questions, and his three questions to ask about an idea: is it true, is it clear, is it fresh? - When Emily Cohen talked about the struggles in-house graphic designers have to overcome - Little burst of design history from Andrew Hochradel l (now I know the Declaration of Independence was first typeset in Caslon!)

The #1 thing no one tells you is… A university degree doesn’t solve it all 🤷🏼♀️ Even though the intense studying might give you a good understanding of your craft. ➡️ It doesn’t help to build up your confidence post graduation. ➡️ It doesn’t instantly get you a job. ➡️ It doesn’t set you up with your dream life. Working with people and learning as you work, can build your craft tenfold. So instead of fretting about the courses, the qualifications or the grades. You only need one thing to start building a following on LinkedIn Something you're passionate about that you can write on Yup! That's it! (Notice how I didn't say you needed to be an expert on it?) What you DON'T need is 15+ years of experience in your field, to be the founder of multiple companies, a degree, a job, or even to be a certain age I'm passionate about design I could talk about it for hours Am I an expert? Absolutely not! I'm a second-year design student who didn't even know Industrial Design existed until a few years ago, yet I've still been able to build a strong network here Being experienced and having that extra credibility helps for sure, but it's not a requirement, nor is it necessary If you think you're not qualified or don't have anything interesting to talk about... 1. Learning, doing your research, and being passionate is enough     2. Ask yourself what you care about and what your goals are. I'm telling you, there's something there worth posting about!
