It's #WorldHumanitarianDay!!!! Let's take a minute to honor our friends and colleagues who work day-in and day-out to deliver life-saving #humanitarian #assistance to people caught in crises around the world! These men and women go fearlessly into places affected by natural disasters and man-made conflicts. They deliver not only much-needed #aid, but they deliver #hope. It is estimated that more than 300 million people require humanitarian assistance and protection this year due to natural disasters, acute food insecurity, and conflict. Humanitarian workers are vital in responding to all of these crises. They bring food, health care, and shelter to those who are suffering. Their work is dangerous. In fact, 2023 was the deadliest year on record for humanitarians, as 280 aid workers from 33 countries were killed. Sadly, 2024 will end up being even worse. To all aid workers around the world, including those who are members of DACOR and DACOR Bacon House Foundation, a sincere thank you for your courage and dedication.

"Working in any humanitarian crisis, you must accept and deal with a certain amount of risk, and that threshold may vary depending on the organization and how critical the work is to saving lives. You are constantly weighing the risk of putting yourself in harm's way to help save lives versus knowing what would happen if you didn't." Lauren D'Amore, USAID Humanitarian Access, Safety, and Security Team Lead. Today is #WorldHumanitarianDay – a day when the global humanitarian community comes together to honor aid workers and remember those who were victims of violence while on duty. This year, the deadliest year on record for aid workers, we invite you to learn more about how USAID supports the people who put their lives on the line for others in some of the world’s most dangerous places. #ActForHumanity https://lnkd.in/eQzNQ-WH

This World Humanitarian Day, we confront a stark reality: 2023 was the deadliest year ever recorded for humanitarian workers, with 2024 poised to follow a similar path. In our role in urban search and rescue, these statistics are not just numbers— they represent real risks to teams on the ground. At SARAID, we advocate for the enforcement of international laws designed to protect aid workers and the communities they help. It’s imperative that we collectively #ActForHumanity to ensure that those providing lifelines in conflict and disaster zones can do so safely. #WorldHumanitarianDay #HumanitarianProtection

Saving lives in the face of conflict: Why humanitarian aid matters on the frontlines. War takes a devastating toll, particularly on civilians caught in the crossfire. But amidst the chaos, the unwavering presence of humanitarian aid offers a lifeline. This is especially true for medical care, a critical need often severely compromised in conflict zones. International law protects medical personnel and facilities, yet this lifeline remains fragile. Without access to healthcare, casualties skyrocket, and suffering becomes unimaginable. This is where humanitarian organizations step in. We bridge the gap, ensuring vital medical supplies, personnel, and facilities reach those who need them most. From treating the wounded to battling disease outbreaks, our work directly reduces the human cost of war. Every bandage applied, and every life saved is a testament to the extraordinary courage of frontline caregivers and the crucial role of humanitarian aid. Together, we offer light in the darkest of times, reminding the world that humanity endures even in the face of conflict. #humanitarianaid #war #healthcare #savetrains #globalcitizenship #wartime #medicalcare #casualties #suffering #humanitarianorganizations #medicalsupplies #personnel #facilities, #humancost #frontline #caregivers UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme) USAID International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC International Committee of the Red Cross - ICRC Oxfam NATO UK government U.S. Department of State @ Centre for Ethics, Safety and Security in Business Dr. Zaheer Ahmad MBE Dr Desziree Richardson
