The APM leadership team gathered last week to do our 2024 strategic plan reset. I’m proud of this team and I’m proud of all the Employee Owners of APM for the work they’ve already done this year. As a company, we had some big goals, and I’m happy to say that many of those have been accomplished and new goals set for the second half of the year. The halfway point on the year is a great time for loan officers and branch managers to check in on their business plans for the year and assess where they’re at. If things aren’t going as planned, there’s still time to recalibrate and make adjustments to end the year strong. If your business is exceeding expectations, add in new goals and areas of focus! Be intentional and stay committed, and success will follow.

🌟 Reflecting on 40 Years in the Industry 🌟 It's hard to believe, but I've been in the credit and collection industry for 40 years, starting when I was just 13 years old, working for my father at Midland Credit (before it went public and grew into what it is today). Over the decades, I’ve seen countless changes, faced challenges, and watched the industry evolve. But here's the thing—after all these years, I’ve never been as excited as I am right now about the future of our industry! The changes we’re experiencing today are opening doors to incredible opportunities, and I can’t wait to see how we can all grow and improve. I truly believe we’re at a pivotal moment where innovation and progress are colliding with experience and tradition. The possibilities ahead are endless, and I’m more motivated than ever to embrace the new and help drive positive change. 🚀 #Leadership #CreditAndCollections #Opportunity #Innovation #IndustryGrowth #40YearsStrong

Last week I was on a panel with Michael Scolaro, MBA and it reminded how lucky we all are to have him as an industry leader. I conducted this interview with Mike a few years ago, but it's just as relevant today. Would encourage anyone in commercial banking to read about Mike's views on ABL, leadership and the general industry. Re-posting as this was one of my best interviews. Banking Is a Team Sport: Be a Captain 🏆 Winning teams have strong captains who get to know each team member personally and motivates them to excel. They provide each team member with clarity on what to do and how to succeed. They act as a personal mentor for each team member to help them win. How well do you know each team member? Do you know what "winning" means for them? How well do you know WHY they come to work every day and WHY they want to succeed? I encourage you to act like a captain and learn more about your colleagues. Leverage this knowledge to motivate each other to succeed. Sit down with your teammates and develop a clear plan for success. Hold each other accountable for executing that plan. Helping Commercial Bankers Create Lifetime Client Partnerships Through Trust-Based Sales and Leadership Training l Guiding Bankers to Blend LinkedIn Into Their Daily Routines l Conference Speaker and Seminar Leader
🏀. Pat Summitt led her teams to 1,098 wins – a record at the time of her retirement. She is also recognized as on the toughest coaches in NCAA basketball history. ❤️ Summitt loved her players and wanted the best for them. Accountability and consequences were two words her lady Vols understood and lived by including Candice Parker, one of the greatest women basketball players of all time. In an October 25, 2023 article by Erin Achenback, Parker suggested, “There was this one practice where I wasn’t giving my all, and Coach Summitt didn’t hesitate to kick me out. She made it clear that nothing less than my best was acceptable.” If a teller fails to balance more than X times, there are consequences. If the bank fails to lend to LMI neighborhoods, there are consequences. If a commercial banker shows value from the time they pick up the phone for an initial appointment until the new relationship is opened and beyond, there are consequences - positive ones for sure. Accountability without consequences is mush. It’s a waste of God’s air talking about it. It’s just plain weak. I talk with CEOs and executive leaders about accountability and they suggest that this year, damn it, they will hold bankers accountable to… ✅ Regularly use tools the bank has invested in like Vertical IQ and RelPro, Inc. ✅ Make the CRM a seamless part of their sales process ✅ Follow the sales process Want the accountability to stick in 2024 and make those consequences = more profits, better client service and better personal growth for associates? 💰Everyone, starting with the CEO uses the CRM because everyone understands the strategic benefit. No excuses, no BS. 💰Every business intelligence and prospecting seat the bank is paying for is being used and sales leaders integrate these tools into every team meeting and one on one 💰Everyone knows the sales process, lives it and it is discussed in regular behavioral coaching sessions with the manager 💸 Billions of dollars have flown out of bank sales training budgets over the past many decades. It’s after the training when things should change. It’s after the training when action is taken to implement what was learned. It’s after the training when accountability begins. Love your players, do what’s bests for them, hold them accountable and create consequences. Helping Mortgage Leaders Scale Teams, Drive Sales, and Master Recruiting | Performance Coach | Podcast Host | Keynote Speaker | EVP at Revolution Mortgage |
Leaving Columbus yesterday after a few days of our department leaders grouping together to not only collaborate, learn and connect around how we can improve personally but also continue our pursuit of building an ELITE organization that truly is different in the mortgage industry. So proud of how far we’ve come and seeing this level of growth over the last 18 months ths I’ve been here alone. Our team continues to attract top talent and develop them when they get here. Candidly some areas we saw we can really improve and take this to the next level. That’s where the EQ and MQ come into play we discussed at length. It was great to have everyone from operations to compliance to secondary, licensing, branch success and more gathered and unifying as we grow. This IS the vision casting and foundation that will allow us and fuel our next stage of growth. Years ago I was able to spend a day with Dr Kevin Elko (thank you Micheal Burt) who worked closely with Alabama Football for years and he honed in on the importance of language, the words we use and how neurons that fire together wire together. That’s how GREAT teams and leaders are built over time. A few key statements, standards and phrases we clung on to….(Working on these as we build this and share with our team). 🔑Managers TELL, Leaders ASK - leaders ask great questions & engage others. 🔑You/We have unlimited potential - this belief drives constant training and growth 🔑We take ultimate responsibility - this ownership principle permeates and drives actions. ⚔️ The rate of the pack is defined by the pace of the leader.
