I wrote this article to highlight the importance of achieving equity for cannabis entrepreneurs. According to Omnique Garner, the obstacles facing black cannabis entrepreneurs are not limited to funding and equity. Before a business owner can join the Cannabis Control Commission’s applicant queue, they must sign a contract with a host municipality. An agreement must be reached with the city or town where the owner wishes to operate. While the state has a social equity program, municipalities are not held to those same rules. Some municipalities have been accused of disreputable practices, negotiating more than the 3 percent sales tax outlined by state lawmakers. In one investigation, WGBH News reviewed 500 host community agreements between municipalities and potential cannabis business owners. Equity for cannabis industry professionals is necessary. Everyone deserves fair and equal treatment in this industry. #CannabisIndustryEquity #CannabisEntrepreneurs

Well, I guess that, calling them "difficulties", is like calling the Titanic's collision with the iceberg, a "maritime challenge"... "It comes as the cannabis industry faces challenges such as oversupply, falling prices, and regulatory obstacles. Heritage’s restructuring efforts will try to address some of the difficulties and attract new capital or ownership to continue its operations." Take a look at their financials - they are whatever comes before awful - their vision was to get to awful ("Man, if we could just have awful financials, that would be sweet"). Any stalking horse must have been on its way to the glue factory - even at free, you are getting a mega-money loser and capacity in an industry with waaay to much still in play - you'd need to pay me to take it. EXC: the state-owned British Business Bank funded a foreign-owned Cannabis lobbying group led by a former Conservative MP. The British Business Bank’s Future Fund - created to support companies facing financing difficulties due to the Coronavirus outbreak - provided a loan of £467,165 to the Conservative Drug Policy Reform Group, which campaigned for a general relaxation of drug laws in the UK. The lobbying outfit was owned by a number of American and Canadian cannabis-related companies. Crispin Blunt, the former Conservative MP for Reigate served as the body’s unremunated chair. The Future Fund has famously provided loans to a number of unconventional businesses during the pandemic, including Killing Kittens, a sex party organiser, a cannabis oil company and the football club Bolton Wanderers. However, given that this lobbying group makes no revenue (in the UK or anywhere) and would never do so it is likely the oddest business funded by taxpayers through the Future Fund. A spokesman for the BBB said that the scheme was rules-based and any company, regardless of their purpose, would receive funding if they met the eligibility criteria.
