How many #supermarkets and #grocery stores are on your regular rotation? In the #US, “consumers bought #groceries from an average of 20.7 different retailers between March 2023 and February 2024” (per Numerator), up 23% vs. pre-Covid. I know I’m getting old, because switching grocery stores is hard. Groceries are expensive. As a family of four we spend over $1,000 in groceries each month. So naturally, we shopped at the cheapest local grocery store. But that all changed when we tried our local Hyvee… _______________ Hyvee knows they don’t have the lowest prices in town. And they don’t have the largest selection. But they do have…..THE CART. A simple “kiddie cart” is why we now spend more money on groceries each month. I can feel my son’s pride and excitement as he walks down the aisle putting food in his cart. His eyes light up and he feels ten feet tall. As a parent, I can’t resist the opportunity to empower him and let him flex his sense of responsibility. _______________ Hyvee makes grocery shopping an amazing experience for us, not just an expensive errand. The key isn’t always being the cheapest. The key is providing your customers with an unparalleled experience. _______________ #Hyvee #groceries #customerexperience

So shopping for boneless skinless chicken thighs this past week for an event (I needed 80 Lbs, in addition to 145 Lbs of bone-in Butts). Sam’s Club which is supposed to offer good deals to vendors like me had them at $3.48 per Lb. Same as Walmart (store brand). Restaurant Depot had them for $1.78 per Lb. (40 Lb boxes). The Boston Butts were $1.98 per Lb at Sam’s (even higher at Walmart) but got them for $1.29 per Lb on special at Harris Teeter and a few of $0.99 per Lb with e-VIC membership. The best everyday price for Butts is Restaurant Depot usually around $1.59 per Lb. for when I can’t find them on a sale. PS- cancelling my Costco membership because they don’t carry what I need (only boneless butts which I hate to use and no longer carry Prime briskets) or prices too high on the few items I can use. Thankfully I have apps for stores like HT and Food Lion to show me when sales occur. It’s a jungle out there folks, shopping for best prices. The same with all the other commodities I use in my small business. Yes, prices are up but do your homework before you shop. Let’s fight inflated inflation.

Why is it that every time you 'just pop into the store,' you end up spending enough to launch a small nation? You know the drill. You walk in for a single item. Maybe it’s milk. Maybe it’s batteries. Something quick, easy, harmless. Next thing you know, your cart is loaded up like you’re preparing for an apocalypse. I went in for a carton of milk the other day and somehow came out with five types of cheese, a beach umbrella (?!), and enough snacks to feed a football team. What is it about grocery stores that turn us into treasure hunters? Here’s my theory: grocery stores are like casinos. Once you're inside, there’s no clocks, no windows, and the layout is designed to disorient you just enough so that you stumble into the "home goods" section and suddenly need that $50 candle. And don’t even get me started on “just browsing” at Costco. That. Place. Is. A. Trap. One minute, you're contemplating a rotisserie chicken, and the next, you're wondering how you lived your whole life without a kayak in your living room. ❖ Milk. ❖ $10 worth of impulse buys. ❖ 3 hours of your life you’ll never get back. The grocery store is a black hole, and I keep falling in. I’m curious - what’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve bought when you only meant to grab ONE item? Drop it in the comments below, I need to know I’m not alone in this! #ImpulseBuys #GroceryStoreAdventures #HowDidThisHappen
