Here's your appeal letter Story Formula: The Community has a Problem. Your Organization has the Solution. The only way to Implement is with Donor Dollars. Wondering where you find your community problem? The first place to look is in the mission, vision, and values of the organization. Chances are good that your community problem is the opposite of these statements. For example: if your mission is to end childhood hunger the community problem is that KIDS ARE HUNGRY! That is compelling. It's attention grabbing. Now that you know your community problem, how are you going to use it in your appeal letter... Simple... Ready for it? It's the opening line of your appeal. Kids are hungry. Don't start your spring appeal with a paragraph talking about the joys of spring. People already know that. They are living it; they don't need you to remind them. Start with the problem. Grab their attention. That's it for this week.
