Flights, now trains…it’s been an interesting watch. What next in 2024? It feels like new distribution and new players would be a welcome addition to the travel landscape. Time for new change? #travelindustry #traveltechnology #partnershipsmatter #traveltek
New players is always a good thing, it drives innovation. I've been using the Uber app for rail bookings and I have to say it's great. It's super easy to use and the fact they give 10% uber credits for every booking is a game changer for me. It's not getting a huge amount of recognition though in the market which surprises me. It's a big USP and will be interesting to see if they keep it longer term.
Uber are definitely one to watch with Dara at the helm! Fritz wrote something on this recently - they have the whole trip sewn up end to end now, and for a point-to-point business traveller I can see them gaining traction. Ride to the airport or train station, the flight or train itself, hotels which if they don’t have them already they likely soon will, food delivery after any meetings, and the ride back to the airport or station to go home. All in one app, with receipts and/or invoices to download as PDF. Can definitely see it taking off for those without a managed program!
I’m not sure it’s distribution that’s the problem though.. it’s the operation that needs the innovation and clever thinking.
Uber is a great addition to rail ticket retailing. Though I would say that, of course!
