Parents are The Best Project Managers! Ya, you heard that right. No one has experience working around the clock building characters, being role models, cheering the "staff" on and caring and managing for our worlds future quite like parents. In geoscience, I have worked week long shifts where I was taking cat naps on a couch mudlogging on an oil rig managing up to 10 geoscientists and techs or I did 3 day shifts supervising wireline activties. When those projects were finished. My responsibility was sleep. This was just training to be a parent.  As parents you can't schedule time to sleep, rest or go have a beer. Your families come first and there is no backing out! As project managers we have to put our all into our work. We are masters of scheduling, planning, executing operations, dealing with emotions and it hardly phases us. Many geoscientists put in the long hours and are hardly recognized much like parents. When you are looking to fill a business development position or management position - go for that parent first. Who you hire reflects company ideologies. If we are pro-parenting and families, we are advocates of humanity, values, commitment, stability and the future for all.

When applying for new role, focus on the responsibilities and requirements listed within the job description, not the job title. Job titles vary from one company to the next. A Project Manager at one company can be drastically different to a Project Manager at another, yet share the same job title. Dive into what the role is actually asking for and what they expect from someone in this position.
