We want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to Country Materials Corporation who awarded Crew Collaborative a $25,000 grant. This funding allows us to continue our mission through programs like Classroom Talks, Ambassador Program and our upcoming Learn at Lunch series for those in the construction field. Crew can extend our reach into new school districts around the country, provide FREE membership and networking and advocate for the development of all aspects of the construction workforce. This support allows us to keep doing what we do, and we are so grateful! Find out how your company can be a sponsor of Crew as well by contacting partnerships@crewcollab.org.

Excerpt #16 from Chapter 32, Perception or Reality? … I just happened to be assigned contract management duties for some projects to which the other co-op students were not similarly assigned. [Note: The Navy’s Cooperative Education (co-op) college-student employee program was used to entice university students of various majors to join the Navy’s civilian workforce by providing engineering experience and tuition assistance; upon graduation, such employees could be converted to permanent employees.] Did it make sense for my second-level supervisor to skip over the first-level supervisor and assign such work to someone who had no experience in construction or engineering and who was limited to 20 hours a week due to the constraints of the student employment program? But I was eager-eyed and took on the challenge of the work! The work was overwhelming, and having ConReps aligned against me did not help. The second-level supervisor would have been better served if he had gone through my first-level supervisor and started me off with just one contract to manage! But even one project was way above my pay grade [which, back then, I was a GS-899-4/5/7 as most engineering students in the co-op program were], and the work was typically only done by someone who had graduated. Nevertheless, I did bring to conclusion the four or five projects I was initially assigned, and the other, an extensive upgrade of the primary electrical distribution system, was progressing. For the most part, I appreciated the experience the assignments gave me, even though the assigned duties were off track from the tasks and responsibilities typically assigned to a co-op employee. Going forward, my book excerpts will be posted on Mondays until my crowdsourcing campaign concludes on Sunday, October 27. https://lnkd.in/gDnv7xCt

Newsletters Does your community currently send out monthly newsletters? If not, here are a couple reasons why a newsletter could be helpful. An HOA is built around community and this is a great way to keep all residents in the loop about important events and projects coming up. This could include cement projects, roofing repairs or even a fun event such as a community picnic or food truck! Sending out newsletters could also increase the involvement of other residents who may not be part of the Board of Directors. Residents who feel valued and heard will most likely be more active going forward. Although newsletters are not a requirement for an HOA they can be fun and informative!

We have a new teammate on board, which means even more wisdom to share! We’ve been super interested in funder cultivation lately – Lindsey VanDyck, one of our new Consultants, had some expertise to share! “If you're unsure if your organization or program fits with a funder's giving priorities, ask! In many cases, this can save both you and the funder time and can be a great conversation starter. Of course, you want to respect the communication preferences set by a funder, so if it's a corporation or foundation be sure to check their website or other sources of public information so you can see how they prefer to be approached with questions. If they are open to discussions about alignment or eligibility, try to time your outreach so that it doesn't fall during an active application period or right before a deadline.” #hellohedges #helpfulhints

🏔 🚀 Live in Colorado! BuiltCold is now the most effective way to comply and compete on state projects under the #BuyCleanColoradoAct. And we’ve made a video to prove it. The Buy Clean Colorado Act (BCCO) requires the use of low-carbon construction materials for state projects exceeding $500k, with design solicitations posted in 2024. Buy Clean compliance can cause significant disruptions for design-build teams and government agencies. To help, BuiltCold worked with Colorado’s construction community and state agencies to develop a BCCO-specific experience to reduce the compliance burden—saving time, money, and emissions. Designers and contractors, simply create a free BuiltCold account to get started. Here are some time markers so you can jump straight to key sections: 01:04: BCCO Overview 01:55: Project Creation Walkthrough 03:50: Material Selection Guide 05:42: Automated Compliance Document Generation #GoLowWinBig
