Great post on humility and mindset from Simon Sinek. My two take aways: Humility is being open to the ideas of others. Leaders can see others' ideas as a threat. Focusing on a singular goal or one idea of success is exercising a finite mindset in an infinite game. My take - Global Creatives or ADHD Leaders can be wildly creative but also very stuck in a singular mindset, a mindset often infused with hyper-focus and perfection. Cognitive inflexibility is a hallmark of ADHD and will sink you as a neurodivergent leader in an ever changing and dynamic work space. Start to loosen that finite, absolutely certain mindset and your people will thank you. #adhd #globalcreative #mindset #journeythinking #humility #hyperfocus

The bar goes up every day The point from Simon Sinek that success should always be taken in the context of “for now” deeply resonates with me and reminds me of a message that James Michael Lafferty once shared with his organization during the annual performance review process when he was running P&G Family Care WE 20 years ago. “Ratings are fluid things and they change: Some go up, some stay the same, and some go down...success is a moving target and the bar keeps on going up...performance varies over time, and thus, so do ratings...It is a dangerous trap to fall into to assume that a top-rating will naturally stick over time. A rating is not something one attains and keeps permanently like a trophy. It is not a steady state nor a right once attained. It is a moment in time, a snapshot that must be continually maintained. Like for an Olympian, winning a Gold Medal once is no guarantee of victory at the next games. There is no finish line, a rating must be re-earned time and time again...each year. Once you have your rating, you rejoin everyone in the same pool and have to reconfirm your rating all over again." Jim also gave us all some advice on what people who manage to achieve top ratings year after year do. “Of course, there are people that hold a top-rating time after time and there are things we can learn from them. So, what do they do? 1) They recognize that the bar goes up every day and understand that holding performance means a decline in rating over time. They understand they cannot let up but must get better and keep raising the standard of performance. They know there is no finish line. 2) They ask themselves each day: Am I better than I was yesterday and am I prepared to learn and be better tomorrow? As a by-product of continually raising the bar, they seek to grow each day. They are open to learning, accept mistakes, and importantly, are coachable. You will rarely hear them say: I know that already, this does not work; this mistake is not my fault or was somebody else’s fault. They listen, learn and are open. Every day they get better and they consciously work on this as a personal mission. 3) They never cease from throwing themselves into the ring to take on a new challenge. They recognize that to grow, you must be uncomfortable. Comfort feels nice but does not foster growth. So they are open to challenges...try something new, changing departments as a broadening assignment, or moving to a different country. They don’t worry so much about checking the boxes...but go for what will make them grow, knowing that if they do this, everything else will fall into place. No matter how you look at it, this is sound advice for any of us. Personal growth is the single biggest factor for our careers and something we totally control ourselves.” Sound advice it was and still is 20 years on! Thank you Jim, and I hope it is okay that I share your advice on my feed. #CareerGrowth #Leadership #PersonalGrowth #stayhumble #stayonyourgame

I know our team consistently hears about the "infinite game" and how important it is to focus on the journey, and not the destination. Simon's principles are outstanding and provide leaders a consistent reminder how important it is to adapt and constantly be focused on self-improvement without a finish line. #Development #Leadership

Respected Organizational Leader. Specializing in clinical workforce development | Leveraging clinical patient care, project management, and regional leadership experience to achieve operational objectives.
Play the infinite game. Develop long term investments that deliver success over a measured amount of time but also builds a foundation that allows for infinite growth. When we play the game with short sighted objectives and wins it limits the growth of the team and the product. You are constantly starting over. Progress should be fluid, even in the pivots!
