Family homelessness is a growing social problem affecting families in every state. Nationwide, 85% of providers have seen family homelessness increase in recent years. Family homelessness accounts for 37% of the overall homeless population and 50% of the sheltered population. Housing is essential to ending homelessness, but it is not sufficient. Families need basic supports beyond decent affordable housing to thrive: food, education, employment, child care, transportation, health and mental health care, trauma-informed care, and children’s services. More than 90% of providers agree that services are necessary for families to remain stably housed, and that services need to be provided as soon as families become homeless and continue after they are permanently housed. Help us support these families by donating directly to Winter Walk as we continue our mission to end homelessness for good! #morecommonthanyouthink #endhomelessness #endthestigma #dontwalkby #winterwalk 📃 Source: The Bassuk Center on Homeless and Vulnerable Children & Youth Donate: https://lnkd.in/eEz2r_PK

Friends, Recent reports of homelessness on the rise can be cause for despair — especially for those experiencing it. At BRC, we don't despair. We're focused on helping, healing and housing New Yorkers in need. That's why in the last year, 1,209 individuals served by BRC moved from homelessness to home, on average more than 3 times a day. And 14,409 times last year -- every 36 minutes -- our outreach teams -- the Orange Angels -- helped someone unsheltered find their way to an appropriate setting. So there is no need to despair; instead join us in making impact: become a volunteer, a staff member, or a donor by clicking here: www.brc.org Thanks for any way you can support us. Wishing you a happy, healthy and hopeful new year. Muzzy

When you hear Homelessness, what do you think? Would you know if any of your staff were experiencing homelessness, or what to do to support them? What does Hidden Homelessness mean? I’ve been at The Clock Tower Sanctuary, Brighton for more than 9 months now and during that time I’ve had numerous conversations about what we do here. Whether it’s friends, family, donors, corporate supporters or even politicians, the first thing they tend to talk about is how many more people they are seeing sleeping in tents and doorways in the city. There’s no doubt that the number of rough sleepers has gone up, we’ve seen a nearly 200% increase here. The impact this has on people’s physical and mental health, their vulnerability to crime and exploitation, and loneliness and isolation cannot be overstated. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. There are far more people, many of them young, who are sofa surfing, living in cars or other vehicles, or in overcrowded or unsafe conditions. Their stories are less seen but no less urgent. On the 25th of September, in collaboration with PLATF9RM and Watch This Sp_ce, we’re going to be shedding light on the realities and often overlooked struggles around Hidden Homelessness. Raising awareness of this is the first step towards supporting people and creating change. It promises to be a challenging and important session, please join us! https://lnkd.in/e_b7xn94 We’re enormously grateful that all ticket sales and donations will be going to Clock Tower Sanctuary, helping us continue our vital work supporting all young people experiencing homelessness. #homelessness #brighton #hiddenhomelessness #

There are seven days left until Christmas a time to reflect on how charity is more than just an act of giving. It’s about genuine care, compassion, and extending a hand to those who need it most. Charity is rooted in love and affection, as shown by figures like Mother Teresa and her Missionaries of Charity, who dedicated their lives to serving those society often overlooks. Their work reminds us that charity isn’t about waiting for others to seek help but stepping forward to meet their needs with grace and humanity. Closer to home, organizations like Shower the People in Nashville embody this spirit by providing mobile showers and laundry services to those experiencing homelessness. Their work reminds us that charity is about more than donations—it’s about restoring dignity and offering essentials with compassion. Just like the innkeeper who found space for Mary and Joseph or the Good Samaritan who stopped to help, small actions can create a ripple effect of kindness and hope. At its heart, charity reflects the spirit of seeing beyond oneself to care for the vulnerable. Often, it’s not about solving every problem but doing what we can with what we have and making a meaningful impact on someone’s life. As we celebrate the season of giving, let’s remember that charity is about showing up for others in ways that truly matter. Whether it’s giving time, resources, or a simple act of kindness, every gesture counts. This season, let’s “go and do likewise,” carrying the spirit of charity into our workplaces and communities. #KindnessMatters #LeadershipThroughService #SeasonOfGiving https://lnkd.in/g3Yg5kjG

During this Giving season and this winter season, the problem of young people at-risk of homelessness is serious. Across the US there are more than 4,000,000 young people under the age of 25 without homes. In Georgia alone the number is more than 35,000. Youth homelessness is a prevalent issue facing the communities we serve throughout NW GA. The reasons for youth homelessness are many: difficult family situations, poverty, family violence, drugs and others. At Advocates, we are working hard along with community partners to address this issue for young people. Through our Flowering Branch Children’s Shelter, and our RISE Youth Independent Housing Program, we are providing housing for more than 180 young people in our communities who were previously at-risk of homelessness. Eighty percent of the young people who compete these programs achieve housing stability and independence. This Giving Tuesday your support for youth who are at-risk of homelessness will help even more leave the streets and find housing stability and independence. We cannot do this without you, please donate today. https://lnkd.in/eGt3KDMG #givingtuesday #youthhomelessness #advocatesforchildren

KINDNESS IS NEEDED TO TACKLE HOMELESSNESS THIS CHRISTMAS - AND ALL YEAR ROUND❣️ Josh has shared with the Big Issue why we believe kindness plays an essential part in ending homelessness 👉 https://lnkd.in/eC-ERShh "As homelessness surges across the UK, the festive season offers the perfect opportunity to address more than just the housing crisis – it’s a chance to redefine how we treat one another. "While these numbers paint a grim picture, the real crisis lies beyond the statistics. It’s easy to get caught up in the stats – and they certainly are shocking. But this isn’t just about a lack of social housing, the cost-of-living crisis or cuts to council funding. It’s about how we treat other human beings. "So, if you see someone affected by homelessness this winter – show them kindness. That may be a smile and a chat. It could be purchasing a Big Issue or making a £5 donation to Social Bite to buy a Christmas dinner. Or maybe it’s raising your voice to advocate for change. We each have the power to make a difference, so let’s ensure no one feels invisible or forgotten during the holidays."
