Just yesterday, our Senior class had the opportunity to host Tania Tetlow, the President of Fordham University, for a Fireside Chat. Tania provided advice that resonated deeply with our students– advice that could change their entire perspective on these pivotal moments in their lives. Her response manages to encapsulate our philosophy on 𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘢 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴. Students in Dr. Danley's Creative Activities and Physical Movement course selected an article of their choice to read over four different topics covered. The students had to use a note taking strategy of their choice: Cornell Notes, Outline, or Doodle Notes. Afterwards, they used their notes to write a reflection. This fantastic lesson/activity for secondary students targets many skill areas: comparing/contrasting the lives of students in the city vs suburbs, inferencing, critical thinking, and perspective-taking (to name a few!). I have been doing this with my middle and high-schoolers this week and it has sparked great discussions! We also discussed these questions: • How do you find commonality with others? • How would you make a friend who grew up in a different environment?
