When my grandma Vicki was struck down and murdered by a 14 year old high school dropout, my world detonated. The very laws of physics came into question. Up was down. Down was up. The center of gravity no longer existed. I was faced with two existential questions: 1. Is it possible after an incident of unimaginable depravity to forgive someone who doesn’t express any remorse? 2. Will it be possible to experience joy again, knowing that time doesn’t actually heal all wounds and you will face certain tragedies (violence, suicide, death of a child, etc) that never leave you? I have lived my life pursuing in thoughts and deeds answers to these burning questions. Every ounce of labor I expend honoring Vicki’s incredible legacy brings a tenfold measure of healing. Part of what I’ve learned is expressed by this physician talking about not working so hard to justify our existence. Rather, it’s about living an examined life with playfulness, and joy in the company of friends, family and loved ones— empathetic and kind to all, no matter what they’ve done. We cannot seek harm for those who harm us or we will never know joy again. We won’t be unburdened by retribution. The obverse is true. We must practice kindness especially to those who don’t deserve it. We will live unburdened and joyful when we seek no harm under any circumstance, and offer love to all those who cross our pass. Such a great conversation, this. Two things really resonated for me How important it is to disentangle doing important work from working *too* hard. I think that this is such an easy trap to fall into if you work in a charity or similar. The work matters, and there is always too much to do but this can easily mask other less helpful drivers. At what point are you working 'too' much, neglecting the many other important things in your life, because you are trying to validate your existence or avoid difficult emotions? How to hold all the suffering AND still enjoy life and take time to play -that it is possible to pay attention to the terrible things that are happening in the world and bear witness to them, and at the same time, enjoy your weekend. I have been really struggling with fear of the accelerating climate crisis, and horror at the suffering in Palestine. Finding a way to live with this, honestly, and not let it eclipse finding joy in daily life is a work in progress for me! Highly recommend the whole podcast. Hope you find it useful

In a world that often values constant productivity and hustle, taking a break can feel like a radical act. Yet, this past year, I chose to do just that. I took a step back to focus on what truly matters to me: serving on the board of a small NGO, engaging in meaningful work, practicing yoga, and taking the time to grieve, rest, and recover. This break has allowed me to follow my joy and recharge, but it has also raised an important question: Will taking this time off be a hindrance when I’m ready to re-enter the workforce? More importantly, do I want to work for an employer who doesn’t value the necessity of taking a break when needed? Thank you 💥 Amy Kean 💥 for sharing Gabor Maté’s wisdom where he discusses the importance of taking time to rest and play. It resonated deeply with me and reinforced my belief that prioritizing our well-being is not just beneficial but essential. As I reflect on my journey and look towards the future, I am reminded of the importance of aligning with organizations that value the well-being of their employees. I believe that taking breaks, when needed, should be seen as an investment in one’s long-term productivity and creativity, rather than a hindrance. So, I invite you to join the conversation: How can we shift the narrative to recognize the importance of rest and play in our professional lives? How can we create a work culture that values and supports taking breaks for our overall well-being?

It is never to late to make a different choice. What are you sacrificing to justify your existence? What are you saying is most important? Are you actually making choices that support this or are your choices compromising these? If the latter, it is not too late. Make a new choice, and set things in the right path! #wiseup #makeachoice #takefreshaction

Today, as we observe Memorial Day, we take a moment to honor the men and women who have served and sacrificed for our country. This day reminds us of the courage, dedication, and commitment required to protect and serve a community—a reminder that resonates deeply in both our personal and professional lives. As we reflect on the values of service and sacrifice, let’s also consider how we can embody these qualities in our own work and leadership. Whether you’re leading a team, running a business, or contributing to a project, the principles of dedication, commitment, and service are universal. 1. Reflect on service. How does the concept of service influence your professional actions and decisions? 2. Express gratitude. Who are the mentors, colleagues, or teams that have supported you in your journey? Take a moment to acknowledge their impact. 3. Commit to excellence. Inspired by today’s observance, how can you further commit to excellence and dedication in your endeavors? Today is a powerful reminder of the strength found in unity and the importance of remembering those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Let us bring those values into our everyday actions and interactions. 3. Share your reflections. How do you incorporate the values of service and dedication into your professional life? Wishing everyone a thoughtful and reflective Memorial Day. #MemorialDay #Leadership #ProfessionalGrowth

Empowering Individuals to Achieve Excellence | Champion Mindset Coach | Transformative Leadership & Personal Growth | Transforming Potential into Excellence
I had to repost again, Rob's original post got me to watch Steve's speech, which then led to to look Steve up more where I found a show on Amazon Prime about Steve Gleason. If you haven’t seen Steve Gleason's acceptance speech for the Arthur Ashe Courage Award at the ESPYs, I urge you to put down everything you are doing and listen for a few minutes. His words on courage, fear, fearlessness, and resilience are truly inspiring. They left a profound impact on me, and I believe they will do the same for you. Steve Gleason, a former NFL player, and New Orleans hero, was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 34. Doctors gave him two to five years to live. Instead of succumbing to fear or despair, Steve chose to live his life to the fullest. His journey is captured in the Amazon Prime show "Gleason," which I highly recommend. This incredible man documented his experiences through personal video journals for his then-unborn son and shared his adventures and mission to live fully despite his diagnosis. His story is a testament to the power of the human spirit, and his character, fortitude, and resilience are truly inspiring. Steve Gleason's journey reminds us that true courage is not the absence of fear, but the determination to move forward despite it. It is about embracing life with all its challenges and choosing to make every moment count. His mindset and resilience are a beacon of hope and strength for all of us. In a world where we often face our own battles, Steve's story encourages us to look within and find the strength to persevere. It’s a powerful reminder that we can overcome adversity with the right mindset and a resilient spirit. Let Steve Gleason's story inspire you to live boldly, to face your fears head-on, and to never let anything hold you back from living a life full of purpose and passion. As Rob Pallante said, "The word 'courage' doesn't do him justice." Watch his speech, watch the show, and let his journey inspire you to cultivate a champion mindset. Embrace resilience, build character, and live life to its fullest potential. #ChampionMindset #SteveGleason #Inspiration #Resilience #Courage #MindsetMatters #LiveBoldly
