Senior Managing Director Amanda Wu has witnessed the tremendous growth of our Office of the CFO Solutions (OCFO) practice in her 10 years with the firm. Learn about her experience and what led her to finance and management consulting. What has been a career highlight for you so far at FTI Consulting? Amanda: I think it has to be the incredible journey that I, along with all of my OCFO colleagues, have been on to build our practice from 10 people (when I joined) to now a full-suite CFO advisory practice with 100 people nationally and growing by the day! I’m beyond proud of what we have achieved and excited about what we continue to build together. What makes FTI Consulting different from other consulting firms? Amanda: I know it sounds cliché, but I truly believe what makes FTI Consulting such a special place is our people and our culture. The close-knit community feel, the collaboration, the strong sense of belonging and being part of building something awesome are what make this place so special. What inspired you to pursue a career in finance? Amanda: There wasn’t one single point of inspiration – I think I picked finance and accounting initially because I liked the predictability, the black and white and straight-forwardness of the numbers. But interestingly enough, I find that I enjoy management consulting (with a focus in finance) more because of the opposite – the ambiguity of a situation, the greyness of an issue, and most importantly, the process of problem-solving. I’m always inspired by people who can explain a very complex matter in a very simple way and lay out the best path forward. What is your favorite travel destination and why? Amanda: My hands down favorite city in the world, other than New York of course, is Paris. Every time I go, I’m always in awe of its beauty. I can’t think of anywhere else that’s so over-the-top beautiful and so distinctly unique. I go to Paris for the art, the architecture, the food and of course the shopping! #TeamFTI #ExpertsWithImpact
