The use of rigid inclusions has evolved significantly over the last 20 years, as the engineering community has accepted them, but through this evolution, their purpose has changed. Evaluating that purpose and the potential risk (or lack thereof) associated with a project is key to optimizing the benefit of #RigidInclusions. Read more about it in this Deep Foundations magazine article written by Menard USA Director of Engineering, Sonia Sorabella Swift, P.E.: https://lnkd.in/eU8x-NUv #WhySettle #GroundImprovement #GeotechnicalEngineering

Engineering challenge accepted 👏 Ioannis Prionas, a forward-thinking engineer embracing seismic innovations, and the team at TEKTON Consulting Engineers Ltd were on a mission to minimise and protect seismic damage to structures but in a more cost-effective way. The solution? Combining two industry-leading technologies. "This innovation came about because an engineer on this project saw the ability to bring together two different technologies: the ReidBrace™ system, which has been around for a very long time and trusted by engineers, and [Tectonus Seismic Technology's] seismic device, the RSFJ," says Carl Beck, Chief Executive at Tectonus. ReidBrace™ Xtrem™ can be easily retrofitted onto existing structures, minimises environmental impact and assists in future-proofing construction. Meet our Construction Research Centre’s seismic experts! Reza Fathi-Fazl, Farrokh Fazileh, Zhen Cai and Derek Rodriguez Pacheco are a team of structural engineers transforming research into technical tools focused on seismic resilience for public buildings in Canada. In 2020, the team developed their latest seismic screening tool, supported by Public Services and Procurement Canada. This application can help building owners, engineering and design professionals assess existing public buildings for potential structural and safety risks caused by strong ground motions. The information produced by the tool can help users identify and prioritize buildings that may need additional assessment or mitigation.
