Never expect myself to own a bio-digestor and be able to convert food waste into compost for community farming. In Singapore where only 18% of the food waste is being recycled, there is so much we could do as a normal citizen to increase our food waste recycling rate. The question lies with how can we encourage our people to properly dispose their waste in proper bins and to consume within your limits? Would adopting bio-digestor in every single household change the mindset? Food for thought. #sustainability

🔄🌱 Innovation for Sustainability: Omnivore Recycling's African Pilot Prepares to Make an Impact🚀🌍 Our first African pilot project marks a significant milestone in our journey towards creating sustainable solutions for food waste management. 🍃 Why Africa? The continent faces unique challenges with food waste, predominantly post-harvest and manufacturing waste. These issues not only impact food security but also contribute significantly to environmental degradation. Beyond the immediate challenges, this waste contributes to methane emissions at landfills, exacerbating climate change. At Omnivore Recycling, we see this not just as a challenge but as an opportunity to make a real difference, by addressing these issues head-on. 🔄 Our Solution: We’ve developed innovative recycling containers where insect larvae transform food waste into valuable resources. These larvae serve as a sustainable feed option for chickens, fish, and pigs, addressing the critical need for affordable animal feed. Moreover, they produce organic fertilizer, vital for enriching the agricultural lands of Africa. Our approach not only mitigates the environmental impact of food waste by reducing methane emissions but also supports food security and presents a model of social innovation by creating employment opportunities. 🤝 Join Us: This pilot embodies our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and collaboration. We believe in the power of community and invite you to join us in this journey. Whether you're a farmer, investor, environmental enthusiast, or someone passionate about creating a more sustainable world, there's a place for you in the Omnivore Recycling family. 📸 Impact in Action: Attached is a glimpse of Dr. Marius Wenning inside one of our transformative recycling containers. Here, waste is not seen as an endpoint but as the beginning of something new, hopeful, and sustainable. #Sustainability #Innovation #Agriculture #Recycling #FoodSecurity #ClimateAction #BSF

Post (8/60) Highlights from a recent report by the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) Global MSW generation is projected to increase by 56% by 2050 due to economic and population growth, particularly in Central and South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. African counterparts are increasingly becoming the next destination for recyclers to build their market from nowadays. Buiding a tax-free trade across borders for recycled materials could build more synergies into the space of waste management over the years. Do you think that tax-free trade across borders for secondary raw materials could bring depth to the market? #recycledmaterials #secondarymaterials #recycling #wastemanagement #waste

Plastic pollution continues to create a pressing Environmental and Health crisis. Despite the initial progress of plastic bag ban by NEMA ,a percentage of plastic waste still ends up in landfills, oceans & rivers polluting the environment. It's clear that a more robust action is required to pave way for sustainable circular economy and this action is now embedded on section 13 of Sustainable Waste Management Act 2022. How then can you be part of this change? *Join the movement of mandatory Extended Producer Responsibility(EPR) .A polluter pay principle concept and an environmental protection mechanism that holds producers or brand owners responsible for their post consumer waste emanating from their products introduced into the Kenyan market. * Comply with EPR obligations as a producer or brand owner either individually or through collective schemes such as PAKPRO Kenya .These organisations will help manage your EPR obligations from Waste collection to recycling and ensure your products are not found polluting the environment. # Supporting Circularity # Save our environment

𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 𝗰𝗶𝗿𝗰𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝘆 𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 👉 New research alert Our study on the feasibility of a mandatory Deposit Return System (DRS) for beverage containers in South Africa finds the environmental savings and economic benefits would 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗵 the costs of producers’ fees to operate it. Eunomia Research & Consulting and University of the Western Cape conducted the study with funding from the Alliance to End Plastic Waste and the Norwegian Embassy in South Africa. We found that a mandatory DRS has potential to: ✅ increase the collection of beverage bottles (especially plastic and glass) to 90%, exceeding current EPR targets ♻ divert an extra 305-477 thousand tonnes of containers to recycling 📈 create thousands of extra jobs for waste reclaimers and boost their earnings by up to 38% 🍃 reduce litter, improve local air quality and cut greenhouse gas emissions in the country by 119-294 thousand tonnes of CO2e each year The study involved on-the-ground interviews and workshops with waste reclaimers, informal retailers and buy-back centres to gather feedback and share findings. We’ve recommended more research and trials to reduce uncertainties and risks and design a bespoke DRS that meets South Africa’s needs. Read more about it on our website: https://lnkd.in/eKMPuQPS You can download the main report and supplementary reports here: https://lnkd.in/dChSJd_T The photo below features waste reclaimers taken during the field study for this research. We'd like to thank them - and everyone else - who contributed to the study. #DepositReturnSystem #DepositReturnScheme #DRS #WasteReclaimers #Recycling #CircularEconomy #Packaging #Sustainability
