As I reflect on the role of women in agriculture, I am reminded of the significant contributions they make to the sector. A recent article highlighted that women are the backbone of Fiji's agricultural industry, a sentiment echoed by Dr. Vinesh Kumar, Chief Executive of the Sugar Research Institute of Fiji. This underscores the importance of recognizing and empowering women in agriculture, particularly in Africa where they play a vital role in small-scale farming. As an agronomist and founder of Abuti Spinach, I believe it is essential to create opportunities for women to access resources, training, and markets. By doing so, we can unlock their potential and enhance their productivity, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of the agricultural sector. What role do you think women can play in shaping the future of agriculture in Africa? Let's work together to amplify the voices of women in agriculture and provide them with the support they need to thrive. #abutispinach #Agvocate #AgroDiplomacy 🌱💡🌿[Collection]

As we start the new year, I wanted to come back to this piece published by the Gates Foundation a few months ago. When women in agriculture have access to the right resources, it doesn’t just improve their family incomes. It can help change entire economies, boost farm productivity, and encourage more sustainable farming practices. Research shows that women are not only more likely to reinvest in their families and communities, but they also bring new ideas and solutions that can drive change across the industry. By giving women the training, technology, and decision-making power they need, we’re not just improving lives - we’re building a stronger, more sustainable agricultural sector for the future. #Agriculture #FutureOfAgriculture #GenderEquity #WomenInAgriculture #WomensEmpowerment

Women are the backbone of rural communities, and their involvement in agriculture is crucial for food security, economic growth, and sustainable development. Did you know that: Women farmers in Africa produce up to 80% of the food consumed in their households, yet they often lack access to resources, credit, and markets. Empowering women farmers can increase agricultural productivity by up to 30%, reducing poverty and hunger. Women-led agricultural initiatives can also improve entire communities' nutrition, health, and education outcomes. So, what can we do to support these incredible women? 1️⃣ Provide training and capacity-building programs to enhance their agricultural skills and knowledge. 2️⃣ Offer access to credit, markets, and technology to help them scale up their operations. 3️⃣ Promote women's leadership and representation in agricultural decision-making bodies. 4️⃣ Support women-led agricultural initiatives prioritising nutrition, health, and education outcomes. We can create a more equitable, sustainable, and food-secure future for all. Share your thoughts on how we can better support women in African agriculture in the comments below! Let's amplify their voices and stories! #WomenInAgriculture #AfricanAgriculture #EmpoweringWomen #SustainableDevelopment #FoodSecurity #RuralDevelopment #WomenEmpowerment

Did you know that the United Nations has designated 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer? We applaud this decision! 👏 Women farmers play a crucial role in ensuring food security and driving economic growth. Across the globe, women make up a significant portion of the agricultural workforce, yet they often face gender-based barriers that limit their access to resources and opportunities. But, despite these challenges, women farmers demonstrate resilience, innovation, and a deep connection to the land. Their contributions to agriculture are invaluable, as they are responsible for producing a significant portion of the world’s food supply. By empowering women farmers with access to education, training, financial resources, and land ownership rights, we can improve food production, increase household incomes, and create more sustainable and resilient agricultural systems. Cheers to women farmers in Canada and across the globe! https://lnkd.in/enGRtrpf #womeninag #womeninagriculture #womenleaders #womeninbusiness #agriculture #agtech #Agriculturetechnology #cortexagritechnology #agriculturelife #farm #farmlife #farming #farminginnovation #farmingforthefuture

2026 will be the International Year of the Woman Farmer. As I pointed out in my thesis too: Women farmers are essential to rural communities, playing a key role in building a more sustainable and food-secure future.
Women farmers play a decisive role in rural communities and contribute to a more sustainable, and food-secure world, declared the FAO Director-General QU Dongyu, at a high-level event today. Speaking on the sidelines of the 29th Session of the Committee on Agriculture (#COAG29), he emphasized the urgent need to empower women and girls in agriculture. The event focused on preparations for the upcoming International Year of the Woman Farmer in 2026 which will serve as a global platform to recognize the contributions of women in agriculture, while driving policy changes to ensure their full participation in sustainable development. Qu said that global efforts “cannot only be for a year, but rather for a decade, a lifelong commitment”. https://lnkd.in/gV4-3Ywb #IYWF2026 #LetsGrowEquality #SDGS #4Betters #SDG5
