When I think about supported employment, I think about where the flexibility is in the workplace. If someone needs more support, then we have to be flexible to be able to fit the work within their capacity. This might mean that we request more flexible delivery times from our clients, such as providing a one week turnaround instead of 2 day turnaround, because this would allow us to give our supported staff the ability to take time when they need it, and come back to work when they’re able to produce their best work. It might also mean that we have to be flexible in how we manage our internal operations. One example shared by a panelist at the recent “Open Book” panel was that they intentionally schedule more people than they might need on a given shift so they can make sure they have the production capacity they need. Sometimes some employees can’t come or don’t make it, and they have the perfect number for the shift. Sometimes this means that they have more people than they need for a given shift. They said that that’s okay, because the point of their social enterprise is to give people stability and the ability to earn a living. Happy Labor Day Here is what you need to know...... Labor Day provides a perfect opportunity to acknowledge the efforts of employees from the past and present, as well as think more about how the current working conditions have been formed. - Participate in local events. - Support labor organizations. - Educate yourself and others about Labor Day. How We Can Make Our Working Environment Better Than Today: Transforming work culture means taking steps to recognize and address unfairness, discrimination, and inequality at work. - Promote open communication. - Support work-life balance. - Invest in professional development. Labor Day is much more than a holiday: - it is a remembrance of the struggles that people engaged in to win better conditions at workplaces and so, it should be one in which, collectively, we should reflect on the gains that were won and, possibly, take some action towards the future. 📌Think about what you can do yourself for your workplace and discuss ideas with other employees to promote changes. Happy International Worker's Day to all my friends, clients and followers! 🌟 Today, as we gather with friends and family for BBQs or picnics, let's take a moment to reflect on the significance of this day. International Worker's Day is not just about enjoying a day off; it's a time to honor the hard work, dedication, and contributions of workers worldwide. It's a day to recognise the value of labour and the rights of workers who have fought for fair wages, safe working conditions, and dignity in the workplace. As a life coach, I believe in the importance of balance and well-being in all aspects of life, including our work. So, while we celebrate today, let's also reflect on how we can create healthier, more fulfilling work environments for ourselves and others. Let's strive for work-life harmony, where we pursue our passions, achieve our goals, and still have time for rest and rejuvenation. Let's use today as an opportunity to express gratitude for the opportunities we have and to advocate for those who are still fighting for their rights. Together, let's build a world where every worker is respected, valued, and empowered to thrive. Happy International Worker's Day! 🎉 #PictureYourPurpose #LifeCoaching #WorkersDay #LaborRights #Gratitude #SurvivingtoThriving
