If you have been a foster carer for awhile, you will likely run into this milestone: Birthdays! 🎂 The first birthday in foster care can be difficult – When settling into a new home a child may be cautious around other children or adults. Because of this, birthdays are the perfect time to connect with a foster child and make them feel welcome in their new home. There are many benefits to celebrating birthdays, from building a sense of self-worth, to helping a child respect their peers. Here are 3 ways you can help your foster child celebrate their birthday and mark the occasion. It is important to remember that each family and situation is different so it is best to always consider. Consider the child, consider their family and consider all angles of how it will be viewed, felt and understood. 💖 #OrchardFostering #FosterCare #MakingADifference #FosterFamily #FosterLove #EveryChildMatters #FosterCommunity #SupportFosterFamilies

While many hope to Foster or Adopt infants, they represent merely a small portion of children in the Foster Care System. 💭 Often, these babies reunify with their Biological Families more quickly than other age groups, attributable to the primary goal of Foster Care being safe reunification. 💛 For this reason, when families look to Adopt infants, they may experience a more challenging process due to lengthier or extended waiting periods. 🙏 #LoftusVergariAndAssociates #LVA #Myths #FosterCareAwareness #AdoptionSupport

The foster care industry has an incentive to separate children from their families. Children serve as a renewable funding source, as federal and state governments allocate substantial resources to support foster care agencies. While the intention may be to ensure the safety and well-being of children, the financial wiring towards the foster care industry, and its dismal outcomes for children and families, raise profound questions about its ability to successfully provide even the fundamental, basic protection that children deserve. What if we invested in Georgia in family preservation, counseling, and supports aimed at addressing the root causes of child abuse and neglect. Wouldn’t that be better? Don’t we want to reduce the demand for foster care? Don’t we want children to grow up in stable, loving homes? Not spend years in the dysfunction and revolving door of government “care”. How do we ensure that the foster care system is truly serving the best interests of children and not merely perpetuating its own existence as an industry? #fostercare #childwelfare #family

Family members of foster carers play a crucial role in supporting their loved ones.
