 🚢 Russia to Send Combat Vessels to Caribbean in Show of Global Power ❗This summer, Russia plans to send combat vessels to the Caribbean, with potential port calls in Cuba and Venezuela. These naval exercises, a response to US support for Ukraine, aim to demonstrate Russia's global power projection, according to a senior US official. ❗While the US Navy will monitor these activities, the relatively small number of vessels and planes do not pose a direct threat. The Biden administration views this as routine naval activity and is not alarmed. Throwback Thursday- 📍 W-174 Range, Okinawa, Japan On August 18, 2020, U.S. Marines with 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, observed illumination rounds during a simulated close air support and assault support training event, which was coordinated with long range ground-based sensors. 5th ANGLICO operates across a range of complex maritime military operations to provide fires integration and support. Military operations within the first island chain are largely conducted in the littorals and maritime environment. 5th ANGLICO continues to train to tactical proficiency and readiness while conducting these types of operations throughout the Indo-Pacific. 📢 RIMPAC 2024: Enhancing Maritime Partnerships 📢 Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024, the world's largest international maritime exercise, is currently underway from June 27 to Aug. 1. Hosted by the U.S. Navy's Indo-Pacific Command, along with the Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Hawaii National Guard, RIMPAC features participation from 29 nations, 40 surface ships, 3 submarines, 14 national land forces, over 150 aircraft, and more than 25,000 personnel. This year's theme, "Partners: Integrated and Prepared," underscores the significance of multinational cooperation. Key leaders include Vice Adm. Throwback Thursday- 📍 Okinawa, Japan On June 4, 2018, U.S. Marines with 5th Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company, III Marine Expeditionary Force Information Group, fired a M240B medium machine gun loaded with tracer rounds to mark a target during training. Fire support Marines with 5th ANGLICO called in close air support and indirect fire to support a simulated allied maneuver force. Employing deliberate and dynamic targeting against land, sea, and air targets, the Marines enabled the bilateral amphibious force to maneuver through the littorals while supporting naval operations at sea. 5th ANGLICO continues to direct maritime strikes to defend key maritime terrain and establish expeditionary advanced bases for follow-on operations. 🇵🇭🇨🇦🇺🇸🇦🇺 Philippines, US, Australia, Canada to hold first joint exercises in South China Sea The Philippines, Canada, United States and Australia kicked off their first joint military exercise in the South China Sea to enhance inter-operability among their forces. The two-day exercise, which will involve naval and air force units, is the first among the four countries, and follows the first Philippines-Japan joint exercise in the disputed South China Sea last week. The four nations said in a statement that they uphold the right to freedom of navigation and overflight of the South China Sea, adding that naval and air force units will operate together in Manila's 200-nautical mile exclusive economic zone to improve cooperation and interoperability. #ThePhilippines #Canada #USA #Australia

US Marines Forces Deploy to Philippines Sea to joint VBSS Operations aboard US Navy USS Miguel Keith U.S. Marines with the maritime raid force, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, post security beside the USS Miguel Keith (ESB 5), during a visit, board, search, and seizure exercise, in the Philippine Sea VBSS is part of maritime interception operations that aim to delay, disrupt, or destroy enemy forces or supplies in the maritime domain.       The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.       Using the Miguel Keith for this operation enabled the VBSS team to maneuver and train on a new platform, advancing their knowledge and skill.

EU launches Red Sea naval mission to protect shipping from Houthi attacks The European Union has launched a naval mission to protect cargo ships in the Red Sea from attacks from Yemen’s Houthi rebels. The naval mission will send European warships and airborne early warning systems to the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and surrounding waters. So far, France, Germany, Italy and Belgium have said they plan to contribute ships. A recent renovation of the Ream Naval Base, located off the southern coast of Cambodia in the Gulf of Thailand, was a joint project between Cambodia and China that began in early 2023.
