As part of the Granton Waterfront regeneration, we’re so pleased to see The Gas Holder Park has now been restored, landscaped and opened to the public.
The Park is looking stunning in the winter sunshine ☀️
Public Realm Enhancement | The Grand Canal
We are partnering with Waterways Ireland to upgrade the public #amenities along the Grand Canal between Leeson Street and Baggot Street bridges. The improvements will include increasing pedestrian accessibility and enhancing public seating. Enhancements to #biodiversity include improving habitats for wildlife, additional native planting schemes, and protection for existing trees so they can continue to thrive.
Our Chief Executive, Niall Gaffney said: “Following on from our restoration of the nearby Wilton Park, we are proud to work with Waterways Ireland to upgrade the banks of Dublin’s Grand Canal, providing enhanced amenities for residents, our occupiers, and visitors to the area. We believe this investment will continue to enhance the attractiveness and vibrancy of Dublin’s city centre which we have been investing in for the past 60 years.”
Works have commenced and will complete in 2025.

REMINDER For action - PLEASE SIGN to SAVE NATIONAL PARKS - Queensland Parliamentary petition
This is a reminder to sign the Queensland parliamentary petition (link below) to save Queensland’s national parks from commercialisation (eg leases).
An explanation follows:
ASH has no objection to the present permitting system, permits being approved on an annual basis.
In contrast, leases granted for commercial use of all or part of a national park, whether long-term or VERY long-term (eg70 years) are just plain wrong.
Leasing a state asset is equivalent to selling its use rights; and every political party says so - when in Opposition!
“Commercialisation” via leasing of national parks must stop.
The land acquired for national parks is a public good. It must not be gifted to private developers.

With warm regards to all defenders of Queensland’s national parks.

*Personal opinion*
A public consultation has opened for the eagerly awaited proposed new National Park which includes the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley. This (in my personal opinion) would be a great idea to put the spotlight on the importance of this area in North-East Wales.
However, I do wonder how this will be funded considering for instance the SNPA and NRW are struggling financially (as reported in the press with for e.g. Plas Tan y Bwlch up for sale), and CADW provide only very limited funding for Listed Buildings and conservation work - how will this new National Park be successful without funding? And where would that funding come from? 🤔
Last month, members of the fifth-generation Wates Family—including Tim, Andy, Charlie, and Jonny Wates—visited the impressive Canada Water Plot A1 site in London, a British Land and AustralianSuper development. The visit provided a first-hand look at this transformative project, which is reimagining Canada Water as a thriving, sustainable community with lasting social value.
John Czernobay, Projects Director from British Land, and Paul Collen, Project Director from Wates, led an insightful presentation, sharing key updates on the project’s progress, its vision, and its broader impact. The family was given an exclusive tour, experiencing not only the impressive construction work but also the spectacular views across London—offering a glimpse into the future of this vibrant, reimagined neighbourhood.
Tim Wates, Chairman of Wates, along with Scarlett and Emily Wates, shared their thoughts on the visit—highlighting key aspects of the development that stood out to them and the positive impact it will have in shaping a thriving community for generations to come.

The Port of London Authority is calling on communities in Wandsworth, Barking and Dagenham, and Havering to share their ideas and ambitions for the River Thames in their area.
All responses will be used by the PLA to inform its Tidal Thames Masterplan, which seeks to increase the river’s use for communities, businesses and recreation, as well as enhance its natural environment.
Mike Atkins, Senior Planner at the PLA, explained:
“We’re keen to give local people a chance to voice their opinions to guide future investment decisions that relate to the river in their area. Therefore, we want to encourage people who live in Wandsworth, Barking and Dagenham, and Havering, to consider the Tidal Thames Masterplan and put forward their thoughts and ideas on what should be included. We will also be engaging with the Greater London Authority, the Environment Agency, landowners and river-based businesses.”

Exciting News! The Balboa Park 2024 Community Progress Report is out now!
This comprehensive report takes an 18-month ‘look back’ at the progress made and outlines new, crucial recommendations to advance our community priorities.
Advocates are raising the alarm that without immediate action to modernize the park’s governance and boost public investment, Balboa Park could enter a 'quicksand' phase. This means that long-overdue deferred maintenance could compound, leaving public and private officials with few to no options to maintain the current levels of service.
This report underscores the urgent need to protect and preserve San Diego’s iconic Balboa Park. Let’s rally together to support the future of our beloved Park and ensure it remains a vibrant space for generations to come!
