Prediction:
We are going to see more “fall person” grooming/hiring at the highest levels of marketing organizations than perhaps ever before in the next few months…
Big splashy hires - celebrated with aplomb - only to be made the fall person for failing to fix a business problem marketing alone couldn’t fix in 5 years, much less half of one.
That said, sometimes, a “fall person” job can be the right move, wouldn’t you say?
Have you ever signed up to be the “fall person” and ended up falling forward once you did?
Not to say this was him but Richard Dickson is sure as heck falling into the Gap Inc.! (If you aren’t studying his moves right now, you should be.)

The skill I want to see asked for on more leadership job descriptions:
Resilience
How are any of these folks who are tasked with leading business able to do so when they don’t learn how to persevere?
“That isn’t working, we tried it for 2 days, let’s try something else.”
“You tried all those Gen AI prompts and the results were terrible. Abandon the experiment.”
“The social campaign drove no clicks. We’re not trying that again.”
Things take time, grit, sweat equity, experimentation and risk.
Science as a discipline, which a lot of the “data informs our decision” crowd loves to use as a rallying cry, IS dirty and time consuming. It’s not always pleasant. You don’t always solve problems. You don’t always get the answer you’re looking for.
Imagine how long it took for science to come up with the innovative drugs we take, the machines we use, the methods we practice.
Some people’s abandoned experiments (Xerox) became other companies greatest successes (Apple).
Too many people are golden parachuting out of the messes they’ve made after barely trying leaving it for the next set of leaders to clean up their mess.
It takes a certain skill to do this.
This is why we need more visionaries, nomads, collaborators and people who can get us to prepare for a mindset that the journey never really ends.
Their is no final dashboard report.
If you’re a business in need of a”fall person” as Lola noted in her post to set the course, build a team, establish the future, please get in touch, I excel at future readiness.
That’s because my high school soccer coach would make us run a mile after we had already run three. When we complained and asked why he made us do that his answer was simple: “You want to be the best? You’ve got to beat the best. You can’t just say you’re the best.”
Resilience.
My philosophy in work and life:
You will need:
- Curiousity
- Kindness
- Stamina
- A willingness to look stupid
Let’s go.

If I were hired as a beauty retail leadership position , my first 30 days would focus on three key areas:
Team Engagement: I would prioritize building relationships with my team through one-on-one meetings and team huddles. Understanding their strengths and challenges is crucial for fostering a positive work environment.
Customer Insights: I would spend time on the sales floor, observing customer interactions and gathering feedback. This hands-on approach will help us identify opportunities for improvement and enhance the customer experience.
Operational Review: I would assess current processes and performance metrics. By identifying quick wins and areas for optimization, we can create a roadmap for sustainable growth.
I believe that success in retail starts with a strong team, satisfied customers, and efficient operations. Excited to make an impact with new opportunities! #OpenToWork#HireMe#RetailMgmt#PassionForBeauty

I read this job title:
"Assistant Brand Manager - Healthy Aging"
I can't help but think how wonderful of an opportunity this role would be for a person who is themselves in the midst of 'healthy aging'.
⬆ How perfect it would be for a parent who is rejoining the workforce.
➡ How perfect it would be for a GenXer child of elderly parents who may have had step away from their career to support the transition their parents.
⬆ How perfect it would be for someone restarting their career!
I hope the brand finds the right fit, and I hope they take a look at those with experience that may be a touch over 6 years.

⭐Motivation and Inspiration⭐
"When we hire the right people, our job as leaders is to provide them the things they need to succeed. Success starts by hiring passionate professionals who embrace an entrepreneurial spirit and are dedicated to growing our partners' book of business. As their leader, my job is then providing the training, knowledge and tools for their success - and to get out of the way."

Hi all. I believe I have one of the best and most engaging communities on the planet. Without you all, none of my crazy ideas would come to fruition, especially People Mobile.
I need your help LinkedIn fam. My good friend and my Sales Manager, as I have posted, is struggling for his life on a ventilator right now. I'm believing he will make it and have an amazing story to tell.
As I continue to build the company we have been working together to build the past year, I need leaders to come and join me. "Leader" is not a title, it's a kind of person. Titles are what we do, Leader is who we are. Three stores will be open within this month, with another two pending in the Tampa Bay area! I can't do this alone, I've never been under that illusion. My entire career is understood through seeing the amazing team and people with me.
Would you do three things for me?
1. Continue to pray for Jarred Spurlock Spurlock and his amazing wife and two sons. They are the ones really wrecked and going through the worst of this storm.
2. Share People Mobile's job post? We have an immediate need for at least three Retail Store Managers and six Wireless Experts. Im also open to thinking outside the box. I want amazing people on this team, not amazing "roles".
3. Tell your friends and network about us? We started this company ultimately to prove that Wireless retail can be successful by putting people first.
I have never in my career had such a mix of emotions. This is hard, I love and miss my friend. But, he would tell me to face the emotions, but do the right thing anyway. Lets continue this together.
✅ You finally land your dream Med Device role.
✅ You string together a few successful years.
⏰ to pursue your next role in the organization.…👇
Promotions are an Evolution.
NOT a Revolution.
If you wake up on a Wednesday and decide it's promotion time....
Revolution.
If you ambush your manager at review time "ready for the next step in your career"...
Revolution.
The evolution can be easier than you think.
Start by being a world class teammate.
Be the beacon of hope on your team.
When you field calls from complainers....redirect them.
When you see something you can improve...improve it.
Don't ask for permission either.
Ask your manager how often you should be talking about career progression.
Hold them to it, professionally & carefully.
Develop an unbreakable professional bond with your manager.
Niche down on what you want.
Don’t be wishy washy.
Look for opportunities to lead a project or presentation.
Stay the hell out of the "teachers lounge".
If you don’t know what that means, you’re already in the lounge, smoking Marlboro Reds.
Perform in your current role.
Literally outperform 75%+ of your peers.
Show gratitude.
Don’t ask for feedback, ask for coaching.
Work on your craft on your own time.
Read.
Keep performing.
Do that for 48-60 months.
Head down.
You won't even need to raise your hand.
The shoulder tap will come.
And the timing will be perfect.
And timing is everything.
Be ready.
