Did you know 95% of game studios are working on or plan to release a live service game? In an excellent report released by Griffin Gaming Partners in collaboration with Rendered VC , perspectives towards multiple facets from over 537 game studios have been gathered to provide a high-level overview of the opinions and challenges of the gaming industry. Of those surveyed, 63% hope to achieve a biweekly content release schedule for their live service title. It should come as no surprise to anyone that rising development costs and competitive market conditions are having a dramatic effect across the industry. While there is no stand-out challenge pointed out, respondents commonly cited high player expectations, cross-platform support, and delivering live services to players as major concerns. We know that the mobile gaming market is tough right now, and in general, the data proves it. However, there is still room for new projects (1), successful pivots (2), and new highs (3). 1 In Q1 2024, two projects launched in 2023 reached milestones of 50 million monthly revenue - Whiteout Survival and Last War: Survival Game. Is this a renaissance of 4X strategies? 2 Brawl Stars has reached tremendous success, increasing their revenues almost three times quarter to quarter, or almost six times comparing March to October. It is a great success for a project released more than 5 years ago. We should pay close attention to these success stories because they are quite rare; nevertheless, we can learn from them. 3 MONOPOLY GO! almost reached the 200 million mark in March 2024, and if we don’t take into account games aimed at the Chinese market, it is an unprecedented success story that sets a benchmark for the whole market.
