🌎♻ We're thrilled to see Amazon's latest initiative to eliminate plastic air pillows from their delivery packaging! Like we always preach, the most sustainable e-commerce packaging method is the one that gets your product to the consumer safely: "Ultimately, the paper version offered “the same, if not better, protection to products than plastic air pillows,” Amazon said in its announcement." (Packaging Dive) This innovation not only aligns with growing consumer demand for sustainable packaging but also showcases the potential for large-scale positive environmental impact. #Sustainability #EcoFriendly #Recycling #Amazon #GreenPackaging Read more about it here ⬇, then give our experts a call at 630-690-1300 https://lnkd.in/g9JwmaGu

You'll need to find something else to keep the kids occupied. If you've ordered anything from Amazon lately (and really, who hasn't), then you've noticed wads of brown butcher impersonating as packing material. Well, ditching the plastic air pillows in its boxes is part of Amazon's grand environmental plan. Ah, those plastic air pillows are going the way of the dodo bird at least at Amazon. The ecommerce giant has already replaced 95 percent of plastic air packaging with fully recyclable paper filler. And the plan is to stop using plastic air packaging by the end of this year. That's a big deal when the company had been using 15 billion plastic pillows. Getting rid of air pillows is only a drop in the environmental bucket. Estimates have Amazon generated 208 million pounds of plastic waste from its packaging in the U.S. alone in 2022. Popping the air pillow is actually part of an ongoing commitment to reduce packaging waste. Back in 2015, Amazon introduced the "Ships in Product Packaging" program in 2015, which allows products to be shipped in their original packaging, minimizing the need for Amazon's traditional boxes. Instead of kids popping the air pillows, perhaps the butcher paper will encourage the lost art of fingerpainting https://cnb.cx/3KSvjcR #amazon #environment #climatechange #recycling #packaging #ecommerce

You might have heard of Amazon, global eCommerce giant, who recently announced they have ended their use of all non-recyclable packaging across European markets—switching to three curbside recyclable packaging solutions for all products. The three packaging systems include a flexible paper bag, board envelope, or standard corrugated box. With this change, alongside other initiatives, Amazon has avoided the use of ~1 billion “single-use plastic delivery bags from its European distribution since 2018.” One of these key changes was a 50% increase in SIOC (ships in own container) products. 🌍 A small change can make a big difference. 📦♻️ All of Amazon's delivery packaging in Europe is now recyclable! As they switch to flexible paper bags, cardboard envelopes, and recyclable boxes, there is over a 50% increase in products shipped without additional Amazon packaging. With a report from PIRG claiming that in 2021, Amazon generated enough plastic waste to wrap around the Earth 80 times - over 70 million pounds of plastic waste. This small change is sure to cause a big impact. 🌟 #SustainableShipping #RecyclablePackaging #AmazonSustainability 🌿 Read here: https://loom.ly/qiH-bus

I love to see Amazon continue to lead innovation in #sustainable shipping. Not in reaction to any government regulation, but because it's good business (they both lead and follow their #customer's aspirations). I'm cycling in Europe now---in #Croatia at the moment, and happy to see: #plastic bottle tops now designed to remain attached to the bottle---no bottle tops or plastic perforated ring litter---and, recycling bins for plastic are the norm. It's not hard to engineer for better outcomes. 😊 #peopleplantprofit Conversations On Retail Food Sport International Decarbonizing Commerce

Amazon said they are ditching the plastic air pillows in its boxes and that the change will help it use nearly 15 billion fewer plastic pillows annually. The paper fillers are made from 100% recyclable materials and are curbside recyclable. The company began a transition away from plastic filler in October 2023 when it announced its first U.S. automated fulfillment center to eliminate plastic-delivery packaging. Amazon is ditching plastic air pillows in North America! They've already replaced 95% with recycled paper filler, and a complete switch is coming by year-end. This is HUGE - it means almost 15 BILLION fewer plastic pillows polluting our planet each year. This move comes after years of pressure from environmental groups and even Amazon's own investors. It's a great first step, but there's more to be done. Here's the inside scoop: - This is Amazon's biggest plastic packaging reduction effort in North America yet. - Prime Day shoppers can expect packages with minimal to no plastic air pillows. - The recycled paper filler is just as effective (if not better!) at protecting your goodies during shipping. Amazon is also working on initiatives to: - Ship items without any additional packaging (already at 11%!) - Use AI and robotics to improve recycling processes What do you think about Amazon's move towards sustainable packaging? 4

It's Friday!!! 🙌 This week, an article from Fast Company struck me particularly hard as I've observed a new phenomenon in my neighborhood: a massive truck, stationed on the main avenue, from which Amazon workers use trolleys to distribute the packages throughout a 4 block radius. This sight, a daily fixture for weeks, underscores just how much we consume. And while our local landscape fills with the comings and goings of delivery, the article sheds light on a global contrast in Amazon’s practices. According to Oceana, Amazon generated 208 million pounds of plastic waste in the U.S. alone in 2022, marking a 10% increase from the previous year. Globally, however, Amazon reports an 11.6% reduction in plastic use, a change driven by regulations outside the U.S. The increasing plastic usage by Amazon in the U.S., despite global reductions, highlights a missed opportunity for leadership in sustainable practices. Amazon prides itself on being a hub of innovation, yet where is the push for sustainable packaging solutions across all markets? As we continue to witness the tangible impacts of our consumption, the call for environmental stewardship and innovation in sustainability has never been clearer. Not to dampen the mood this Friday, let's shift gears - Which companies have you seen making real strides in reducing their environmental impact?
