I received some bad, and unexpected, news late Thursday night that I’ve now had time to digest… - After a year of developing the Fort Wayne, IN office for R&R Express my team became a part of some cuts that I guess needed to be made company wide - It was definitely a surprise with the momentum we had after doubling our production every month so far this year - However, this one definitely does not sting as much as my previous experience, and the executive leadership in charge (Josh Rulnick and John Krakowski) provided great support and were just as saddened as I was - Business is business though, and when cuts have to be made they have to be made I guess —— - The first thing I thought of was my employees and my customers because they made this journey a success in my eyes - I will be forever grateful for that (whether they are happy about the situation or not) - Although I was offered a different role within the company I had to make a decision that is best for me and my family - I took a risk starting something from scratch in this market, but I knew that and don’t regret it at all; however, I may be a bit more cautious this time —— 👉 Does it suck? Yes 👉 Is it the end of the world? No 👉 Are their bigger things to come? Many logistics business owners believe that hiring sales leaders or representatives with extensive experience and established business connections guarantees success. Unfortunately, this is often not the case. I know of many situations where previously successful professionals delivered only 15-20% of their agreed quotas. This occurs because achieving great results is always a combination of service levels, brand awareness, general sales, and the strengths of other departments. The market conditions these professionals previously worked in also play a crucial role. Growing a business during prosperous times differs significantly from doing so during challenging periods. Additionally, the size and culture of the company where the professional previously worked have a significant impact. And there are many other variables to consider, including luck. One of my biggest recommendations to graduating seniors is to try sales before going into an operations role… you’ll make more if you are good at it. Of course sales isn’t for everyone, but definitely try it if you think you have a shot. Here is an example: Global Supply Chain planner as a top earner at Johnson & Johnson makes $95k according to Zip Recruiter Base salary on average for Johnson & johnson sales reps is $97.5k according to Zip Recruiter. Top earner according to glass door is $178k.
