The Coachella Valley Unified School District has become a leader in providing career technical education (CTE) opportunities to students in middle school, and even lays the foundations for in-demand, high-paying fields like coding and renewable energy as early as elementary school. “It’s giving these kids kind of a leg up, and it’s been really exciting,” said Marie Perotti, the district’s director of College & Career Readiness. In the past, the notion of “college for all” failed to inspire students to adopt a love for learning. This is because not every high school student aspires to attend four more years of school. This doesn’t mean that they lack motivation; it simply means that they are motivated to pursue a different path—a path to somewhere of their own choosing. During February’s #CTEmonth, we’re exploring how CTE programs help students find their future. Today, we are highlighting three high schools that have embraced CTE programming and Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs) with positive results. Full story below!

To date, we’ve awarded more than 180,000 bicycles to hard-working students in the second grade in a mission to improve child literacy in the Greater Houston area. 💡 But why do we target second graders? In a survey we took with educators, we discovered that the second grade is the last formative year in which students are learning to read and sound out what they are reading. Starting in the third grade, students are transitioning to reading for content and understanding. 📊 After the third grade, students not reading on grade level are four times more likely not to graduate from high school. And with less than half of Houston ISD first-, second- and third-graders reading at or above grade level as of 2022, we’ll continue our program until that number reaches 100 percent.

The Higley Unified School District Career and Technical Education (CTE) Program, which started in 2019, helps HUSD seniors gearing up for college or other technical education, to get practical training in various fields of their choosing and provides them with academic guidance for their higher education. Overall, Higley CTE students earned more than 500 industry certifications in the last year, with 96.3% of students earning at least one certification. How many of your community's high school seniors are working on industry certifications this year? Is there community data being shared regarding industry certifications earned last school year? Check out more in this week's newsletter at projectsenioryear.com https://lnkd.in/ejinzpgd

We meet our students where they are. ✨ What does that REALLY mean? Well, with our varied programming and hours, we strive to create the best-fit learning opportunities for each of our students rather than just a daily, all-ages drop-off. This means that if a child is six but ready to learn 2nd grade math, he or she can (and be shifted into that group). Or vice versa, if we have a 4th grader who really needs foundational reading instruction, we can focus on that too (and build him/her into that placement and/or session day). Why do we do this? Because we know that every child learns differently, so we're all about creating programs that FIT rather than the other way around (pushing the child to fit the program). We're passionate about supporting needs, inspiring children forward, and helping them be EXCITED about learning. Curious about us & how we can support your child? Let's get in touch! → https://lnkd.in/gkwEKwcA

Hey everyone, we have a webinar coming up on October 29th that I'm excited to share with you: Last school year, Timely partnered with two Dallas County (Texas) school districts -- Mesquite Independent School District and Richardson Independent School District -- along with The Commit Partnership, an incredible nonprofit focused on improving educational outcomes in Dallas County. Through this partnership, Mesquite and Richardson were able to: -Develop more efficient special education staffing allocations: staffing plans significantly reduced the risk of inevitable hiring needs driven by either teacher attrition or an influx of new students. -Improve delivery of special education instruction: thanks to a more optimized schedule, learning specialists aren't stretched across content areas, allowing teachers to better support student learning needs. -Save a ton of time and hassle: in addition to the staffing and instructional improvements, school-based schedulers saved, on average, 50-100 hours of scheduling per campus, significantly streamlining and simplifying the process. Come join us to hear directly from their district leaders about the importance of strategic scheduling and their partnership with Timely! And we will soon be releasing a white paper that will showcase these improvements in efficiency and instructional delivery!

Let's set the record straight! 💪🏾 Back to school is a time for new beginnings and opportunities, but some voices are spreading myths about charter schools and privatization. 🎒 Charter Schools are NOT about privatization - they're about innovation and giving parents the choice to find the best educational fit for their children. Charter schools ARE designed to meet the diverse needs of students, offering specialized programs and flexible learning environments that traditional public schools might not provide. 🌟 In Houston and beyond, charter schools are making a positive impact by providing quality education, increasing graduation rates, and preparing students for successful futures. Instead of tearing down these opportunities, let's focus on how we can support all schools in providing the best education possible for every child. 📚 Let’s work together to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has access to a high-quality education that meets their needs. 🏫✨
