In celebration of Pride Month, we want to share how important it is to be an ally to the 2SLGBTQI+ community and champion diversity in the workplace. Recently, we hosted a great discussion with some of our employees about what it means to be an ally and how we can support a culture of understanding, belonging, inclusivity, and allyship. Here are some insights that came from the discussion: ➡️ Actively listen and learn about the whole person. How they identify is only one part of who they are so take the time to get to know them. ➡️ Take the time to build your knowledge and awareness about people who are different from you. ➡️ Take the time to acknowledge your biases and how they may be affecting your actions. ➡️ Stand up and address situations when others are saying things that aren’t supportive of others. ➡️ Be brave and have the confidence to support your peers On behalf of eSentire, Happy Pride! 🏳️🌈

Have you ever wondered how some people recognize your worth without sacrificing diversity? Well, here’s the easy 5-step framework one can use: 1. Start by acknowledging the neglect that we often face in society. By recognizing our worth and contributions, you take the first step to break down certain barriers that hold us back. 2. Embrace diversity When you celebrate the unique experiences, tastes, and perspectives that a community has you counteract neglect and uplift the community. 3. Prioritize inclusivity in your spaces Everyone deserve to feel welcome and valued, respected, and honored regardless of background. 4. Amplify our voices If you have platform, you can use it to help someone share their stories, ideas, and aspirations so their perspectives are heard and valued. 5. Take action to create spaces that celebrate diversity Whether through advocacy, or activism, we can work together to build a more equitable and inclusive society. 🔑Creating inclusive spaces isn't just about making room at the table—it's about recognizing the value and worth of every individual and community.🔑 Repost this ♻️ if you know someone who needs to read this P.S. Anything you'd add to the list? What's your no. 6?

Monica's Monday Morning Memo... sharing lessons learned and reflections from my prior work week. The highlight of last week for me was the observance of Juneteenth and the variety of events sponsored by National Grid. In 2021 National Grid celebrated Juneteenth as a company wide holiday, a year before it was made a Federal holiday. Declaring this as a holiday demonstrates National Grid's commitment to building an inclusive culture and recognizes Black Americans who have suffered the impacts of racism throughout US history. It was also an opportunity to provide colleagues extra time to participate in civil action to advance diversity, equity and inclusion. We encourage colleagues to use the holiday as a day of reflection – to celebrate Juneteenth or to attend/volunteer at an event that celebrates diversity. In observance of Juneteenth, I, along with a diverse group of colleagues, visited Weeksville Heritage Center in Brooklyn. It is dedicated to preserving the remnants of the thriving village of Weeksville which was established by Black New Yorkers in the years after the state abolished slavery in 1827. Weeksville attracted Black people from the North and South. Some had been born free and others had been born enslaved and escaped, but all who moved there wanted the opportunity to thrive. They found that in Weeksville. Their rich stories came to light in the rediscovery of these houses more than five decades ago in 1968. (See bottom photo below) As I reflected on Juneteenth, I thought about the importance of learning more about each other; respecting and supporting each other; leaving no one behind; and building a more inclusive world...one company at a time! #nationalgrid

"Being a declared year-round ally is much more powerful and welcome than waving a flag for Pride Month and then disappearing until next year’s parade. The industry needs more root and branch change and less fluff and guff." As we approach the end of Pride Month 2024, big group's Ed Riseman explores why buzzwords can risk DEI messaging coming across as a script, how to ensure they remain meaningful and why year-round allyship is so important: https://lnkd.in/escVhkBz

Silence in the workplace can be deafening, but speaking up can be liberating. Zora Neale Hurston's poignant words, 'If you are silent about your pain, they'll kill you and say you enjoyed it,' serve as a stark reminder of the importance of voicing our concerns and discomforts in any professional setting, especially during Black History Month. Keeping quiet about issues at work not only perpetuates harmful dynamics but can also lead to personal detriment. It's crucial to advocate for ourselves and our well-being, even if it means confronting uncomfortable truths. Let's honor Hurston's legacy by creating a culture where open communication is valued, and everyone feels empowered to speak their truth. #BlackHistoryMonth #WorkplaceCulture #SpeakUp #ZoraNealeHurston
