Using People First Language (PFL) shifts our focus to the individual, not their disability or condition. This approach promotes dignity and respect, describing what a person “has” rather than defining them by it. Embracing PFL is crucial for fostering an inclusive and compassionate society. Happy NAACP Day! Today, we celebrate the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and its rich legacy of fighting for justice, equality, and civil rights. On this special day, let us reflect on the remarkable achievements of the NAACP throughout its history. From the courageous individuals who stood up against segregation to the tireless advocates who continue to work towards a more just society, the NAACP has been a catalyst for progress and a voice for the voiceless. As we honor this day, let it serve as a reminder that the fight for equality is ongoing. Let us draw inspiration from the past and channel our collective energy toward creating a future where everyone, regardless of race, can thrive and live free from discrimination. May NAACP Day inspire us to stand united, amplify marginalized voices, and contribute to a world where diversity is celebrated and justice prevails. Together, we can build a future that reflects the principles of equality, opportunity, and unity that the NAACP has championed for decades. Happy NAACP Day! #NAACPDay #EqualRights #JusticeForAll #AdvancingEquality #NAACPAdvocacy #UnityInDiversity #CelebratingJustice #SocialJusticeNow #NAACPStrong #EqualityMatters

Today, March 21, as we observe the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, let us reaffirm our commitment to combating racism in all its forms including microaggression. As the first steps to eliminate discrimination, it is crucial to recognize unconscious biases, and how they contribute to the imbalance of power and privilege. In 2022, Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership created the “Conversations for a More Inclusive and Welcoming Community” EDI Training Curriculum to help Grey Bruce communities explore fundamental concepts such as unconscious bias and microaggression. Since then, virtual and in-person training sessions have been offered to organizations throughout the region. Other organizations are also doing work to eliminate discrimination. To name a couple: The Welcoming Communities Grey Bruce has been organizing the Grey Bruce One World Festival since 2010 to promote diversity and inclusion. The Owen Sound Police Services has recently received the Proceeds of Crime Front-line Policing Grant from the Office of the Solicitor General to implement a 3-year project to raise cultural awareness and eliminate hate in Owen Sound and area. #governmentofcanada

ACCP has a long history of maintaining a warm and welcoming environment that creates a safe space for its members and event attendees. The society’s commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment is reflected in a new video from the ACCP Inclusivity, Diversity & Equity (IDE) Committee. The video explains clearly ACCP’s expectations of appropriate professional conduct; however, should an incident occur, the video provides guidance on the definition of a reportable incident and the process by which an incident should be reported. The video emphasizes the importance of following specific guidelines when reporting incidents, underscoring ACCP's commitment to transparency and accountability. By focusing on the guidelines for reporting incidents, ACCP aims to ensure a prompt and effective response to concerns, ultimately contributing to the establishment of a safe and supportive environment for all members of the society and the global ACCP community. https://lnkd.in/ebfGR49T

The #GMRaceEquality Panel recently convened to discuss vital topics around the recruitment and retention of #Black and #Minoritised communities within our police force in Greater Manchester. Our key message for the meeting included: - Recognising diverse lived experiences for inclusivity. - Promoting representative promotion panels with unconscious bias training. - Enhancing diversity in recruitment and training aligned with College of Policing standards. - Addressing hate crimes and supporting neuro-diverse individuals. - Building trust with community champions is vital for engagement and support. - Acknowledging institutional racism and involving communities in decision making are necessary for progress. We recommend several key actions for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) to enhance diversity and inclusion: implementing targeted initiatives to promote leadership diversity, engaging diverse communities via positive action teams, offering comprehensive diversity training to all officers, establishing clear pathways for recruitment and more. These measures are essential for fostering a more equitable and representative police force in Greater Manchester. The Greater Manchester Race Equality Panel was created by the Mayor of Greater Manchester - Greater Manchester Combined Authority - and is facilitated Caribbean & African Health Network (CAHN). 🔄 Sandy Koujou Paula Henry (Watt) Cristina Leonte Shar Sangster Leala Yewdall
