𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗘𝗗𝗔 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁: 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗽𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 The EDA industry is intricate and fiercely competitive, operating in a winner-takes-all market. The top 4 EDA companies dominate over 90% of the market, with 80% of their revenue coming from the top 20-30 customers. However, this doesn't mean there's no room for startups in EDA. Major EDA companies have built their empires by acquiring many small EDA startups. The complex world of EDA constantly sees the rise of innovative startups offering solutions that existing companies cannot. 🔹 Apache, founded in 2001, provided a groundbreaking solution to the increasing silicon failures due to dynamic voltage drops. This innovation was crucial for semiconductor companies to meet the growing demand for power and performance. 🔹 Similarly, in 2015, a small EDA company called Gear introduced SeaScape, the world's first big-data architecture specifically designed for electronic system design and simulation. This platform offered a highly scalable elastic compute platform with big data analytics capabilities. Ansys acquired both Apache and Gear, marking two of the most successful EDA acquisitions of the last decade. Ansys also made six EDA acquisitions over the past 15 years, establishing itself as a major player in the industry. I was fortunate to be part of Ansys throughout this journey and witness this success. This experience also gave me the opportunity to work with some of the veterans in the EDA industry, like Andrew Yang and John Lee. 🚀 The EDA landscape continues to evolve, and I’m excited to see what the future holds for innovative startups and established giants alike. #EDA #Innovation #Startups #Ansys #TechIndustry #Leadership

#Cluster actors in the spotlight: Today - #Startups. Within my job I meet a lot of them during the year. Today, I want to take the chance and highlight a few of them that I came across in the last weeks. As this is NOT a ranking, here they are in alphabetical order: algorismic gmbh: #IIoT solutions for more sustainable semiconductor production is their claim (do you already know them Ing. Madeleine Mickeleit? ) - they deal with Optimization of energy efficiency and CO2 footprint in semiconductor subfabs based on a dedicated software. HQ in #Dresden. AlixLabs - maybe the best known already, in fact a Swedish company, but CEO Jonas Sundqvist is a traveller between the worlds of Sweden and Germany - and AlixLabs is very active also in Dresden beside their HQ in Lund. CMMC GmbH: Not related to Silicon Saxony, but a very interesting spin-off from Technische Universität Chemnitz, also based in #Chemnitz, dealing with lightweight material, specifically AMC (aluminium matrix composite) - and one of the 50 finalists of the Singapore SLINGSHOT 2024 - Deep tech startup pitching competition. Looking forward already to meet them at the German Pavilion during #SWITCH in October! ConnCons: Had the honour to be able to listen to Nora Herzog two weeks ago during an #Unipreneur meeting by Stifterverband in Dresden - very interesting company in the field of #medtech, dealing with connected consumables. HQ: Dresden. DIVE imaging systems GmbH: Member of Silicon Saxony, dealing with Hyperspectral Vision systems, #semiconductor manufacturing is one of the use cases, inVISION News Startup 2024, you can meet them today and tomorrow in Stuttgart during VISION. Based in #Radeberg. enaDyne: No personal contact (yet) with the team, but Wolfram Drescher recommended it which alone is reason enough to check it out. Dealing really with changing the world by conversion production of chemicals from CO2 - thanks to cold plasma and unique material technology. Pretty sure we will hear and read a lot more from them soon. Based in #Leipzig. Katana Labs: Not the regular software company in Silicon Saxony - but using AI to fight #cancer, offering an advanced cloud- and AI-based image analysis pipeline in cancer diagnostics. HQ: Dresden. MiViA, again AI, this time for analysing microstructures, automating metallography - and again a female CEO, namely Miriam Corcoran. Also, not based in Dresden, but in the absolut wonderful #Freiberg which is also home to TU Bergakademie Freiberg, a globally renowed university related to material and mining research. polychip: Again #IoT, this time a configurator for either your IoT product or your IIoT landscape, currently promoting their product #confioty - just met Paul Ruppelt today. HQ: Dresden. Last, but not least: SpeechMind by Richard Fankhänel & team. AI based documentation of meetings and/or recruiting. HQ also Dresden.
