On 15 November 2024, the International Energy Charter participated in the panel discussion on "Modernizing Infrastructure for a Green Future: Transitioning from Fossil Fuels to Renewable Energy Systems" organised by the World Green Economy Organization (WGEO) at the WGEO Blue Zone Pavilion. The discussion highlighted the key challenges and opportunities in implementing the technological, policy, and economic changes needed to support a full transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy.

🔥 Two years after the REPowerEU Plan, the EU Commission is boosting renewable energy deployment with new recommendations and streamlined permitting procedures (https://lnkd.in/eC-9CHt6). This initiative enhances the EU's renewable energy framework, promoting rapid deployment of clean technologies and reinforcing industrial competitiveness. Key updates include simplified permit processes, designated acceleration areas, and improved auction designs. Great to see the government pledging to support the roll out of energy storage projects at scale this week - publishing its response to the Environmental Audit Committee's 'Enabling sustainable electrification of the economy' report. Released in May last year, the committee’s report highlighted: 📈a lack of storage capacity driving importation of gas, to balance the nation's energy needs ⚡the key role of energy storage in achieving a net zero grid 🚧 market, policy, and regulatory barriers to expansion of the storage sector in the UK In its response this week, the Government has committed to addressing these barriers and to ‘support the rollout of energy storage projects at scale, in order to keep the lights on when renewable energy generation is low’.
