As a Clinical Trial Manager we are always juggling multiple plates especially when setting up a new Clinical Study/Trial. I am a firm believer in systems and processes and often include them as part of my work ethic. It is really important for sponsors and researchers to be aware of the key differences in the approval and set up process in the UK nations. Therefore I was pleased that the Health Research Authority launched a toolkit to help researchers to navigate the differences between doing study submissions across England, Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales. The toolkit includes information on: ✔️Approvals processes in the NHS and HSC intrusive research involving adults lacking capacity ✔️General medical devices and in-vitro medical devices ✔️Accessing identifiable data without consent provision of the local information pack to potential participating organisations ✔️Contracting arrangements It is recommend to use the toolkit during the planning and application stages and should be revisited if thinking of making changes to your study or just to keep your knowledge up to date whilst running your research across more than one UK nation. ➡️PDF Offline version of decision tool kit: https://lnkd.in/e5uzCRZR ➡️Direct link to the decision tool kit: https://lnkd.in/eeADkM5W 👇🏽Comment below if you think this will help reduce the timeframe of study set-up in the UK. Reshare this post for visibility. #ClinicalResearch #ClinicalTrialManagement #HealthResearchAuthority #ClinicalInsights #ClinicalResearchMastermind
We've developed a new toolkit to make it easier to set up research in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The toolkit is designed to support researchers who are planning, setting up, and conducting research in more than one UK nation. It provides information on the key differences and similarities in research approval processes in the UK nations. Find out more ➡ https://lnkd.in/eyavd_C2

This report compares the institutional settings of research systems in Canada, Germany, Israel, the USA, and the UK. Australia's research system is heavily influenced by the higher education system, with higher education research increasing while business investment in R&D has been falling. Australia, Canada, and the UK have had higher education expenditures in the national R&D effort in the 25-35% range. These countries inherited the British system of cabinet government and individual Ministerial responsibility. The approach to public research funding in these countries is an aggregative "bottom-up" style, with no long-term national research strategy and low R&D to GDP proportions. In Germany, Israel, and the USA, higher education contribution to national R&D is much less, in the 10-20% range, and a much greater proportion of public research—research institutes and national laboratories. These countries reflect different public administration traditions and have a national research foundation that takes a cross-government approach to public R&D investment. Based on the study, the report argues for new institutional forms, including additional research funding councils and a national research foundation. https://wix.to/ggCrwkU #newblogpost

Did you know the European Commission launched the European Research Area Platform? The European Research Area (ERA) was launched in 2000 with the aim of creating a single market for research and innovation fostering free movement of researchers, scientific knowledge and innovation, and fostering a more competitive European industry. The European Research Area platform provides space for researchers, innovators, citizens, and policymakers to connect, collaborate, and access the latest information, data and resources related to the European Research Area. Higher education and research are so much linked to each other, therefore another instrument for use at the service of students, academic staff and beyond... https://lnkd.in/dZue_nDn

The INDIRE conference preparations are going well. As we approach the final setup stage, there were few small adjustments to accommodate the complex collective schedules of our participants from around the world. The schedule is up on the website now with three primary themes: Innovation, Aviation, Education (all in relation to the digital world of course), with presentations from various areas such as climate, operations management, healthcare, digital economy Africa, students thesis works, artificial intelligence and the future, and more. I am happy with the contributions from diverse areas showing exactly what point we would like to stress: The world is inherently interconnected, and more specifically, the digital arena amplifies that connection. You do not have to present to attend. All are welcome and we would love your participation in the Forums and Think Tanks which follow a quasi-structured framework whereby all discussions and contributions from the participants lead into a document which we will publish - Similar to a guidelines document. Let us not forget the two amazing networking excursions where the the sun, the sea, the wine and our minds meet. https://lnkd.in/e2N9CtcT

Ireland is going through some changes to ensure more significant collaboration between science and society, and greater strength and capacity of their research and innovation. Subsequently, some of the topics that are central to the country's scientific landscape are: defining and integrating impact (of science, research and innovation, talent, and more), measuring and analysing impact and translating impact into policies. Head over to our website to view the latest programme that has been developed by taking the most prominent topics in Ireland (as well as the world) into account. https://lnkd.in/eaYAUqvV

After a break for the end of year festivities here is the fourth of the weekly series of posts about “the book” - chapter 1.2: History of Research Administration/Management in North America by Kris Monahan, Ph.D., Toni Shaklee, and @Deborah Zornes https://lnkd.in/e-Dzk3uK This second chapter in the History section covers the development of the profession in North America which can claim to be where the profession began - although there it is almost exclusively referred to as Research Administration. ChatGPT summary of the chapter: The development of research administration in North America spans from the 1940s to the present. In the 1940s, U.S. federal government support for scientific research marked the formal beginning, with organizations like the National Defense Research Council playing crucial roles. The 1960s and 1970s witnessed expanded federal funding and regulatory requirements, leading to the establishment of professional societies like the Society for Research Administrators and the National Council of University Research Administrators. The 1980s and 1990s brought significant regulatory growth, including the Bayh-Dole Act and the Research Administrators Certification Council. The early 2000s saw Canada's focus on knowledge transfer, while the U.S. emphasized team science and larger projects. The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the increased demand for research administration. Ongoing efforts are crucial for ensuring equitable access, benefits, and formal education to meet evolving industry demands. It also introduces threads that are elucidated in other chapters, such as the profession in the US (chapter 5.5), in Canada (chapter 5.7), and the development of qualifications (chapter 2.7). You can of course read the whole book online for free. https://lnkd.in/ephzVYca Or if you are desperate to own a hardcopy then use code EME30 at the checkout at Emerald Books: https://lnkd.in/e_5J_9g9 International Network of Research Management Societies NCURA: National Council of University Research Administrators Society of Research Administrators International Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS) Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA) BRAMA Brazil - Associação Brasileira de Gestão e Administração de Pesquisa Científica COREMA MYRMA ARMA UK (Association of Research Managers and Administrators) EARMA National Organization of Research Development Professionals (NORDP) #RMA #BookAnnouncement #OpenAccess #ResearchAdministration #ResearchManagement #Book #Research #ResearchSupport #Profession

Today sees the launch of the Heitor Report on the future of the Horizon/Framework programme. The unpublished version shows a list of 12 recommendations and has strong support for the European Universities alliances. Those of us in alliances have always said that we are highly innovative testbeds working to establish good practices and see huge value in having a multi-mission support approach to contribute to both the European Education area and the European Research area. These sentiments appear to be echoed in the unpublished version of the report and I hope will make the final cut in the published report. Details of the launch event today below. Expert group report on the interim evaluation of Horizon Europe - Launch event The event presents a unique opportunity to reflect on Horizon Europe’s key features and its vital role in addressing Europe’s most pressing challenges. 16 October 2024 13:30 (GMT+01:00) And there is a stream of the launch event: https://lnkd.in/eBY9aaRu
