🌐 Active mobility is one sustainable way to conserve energy while enhancing physical and mental health. Therefore, walking or cycling not only saves energy but also boosts well-being. This is why the European Commission is encouraging everyone to “use your own energy”. 🚲 In countries like the Netherlands and Denmark, cycling is already a key mode of transport, highlighting the benefits of active mobility. 📗 A study published in Nature Communications Earth & Environment showed that Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6 kilometers each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual global carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes. This figure exceeds the entire carbon footprint of countries like the UK and Australia. 🌱 Let’s pedal towards a healthier, more sustainable future! #csls #myklu #factfriday #bike #cycling #sustainability

🚴 More Than Just a Ride: The Untapped Power of Cycling 🚴 Are you aiming to reduce your carbon footprint? Look no further than cycling, the ultimate eco-friendly mode of transport with benefits that extend well beyond mere transportation. Do not underestimate this simple tool. Here’s how cycling can revolutionize your life: 🌿 Sustainability:Your bike can be the first step towards a sustainable future. Unlike cars, bicycles produce zero emissions, directly combating climate change. With transportation being a significant contributor to greenhouse gases, cycling is a legitimate climate solution. A moderate increase in bicycling each year could save 6 to 14 million tons of carbon dioxide. Choosing a bike over a car just once a day can slash the average person's carbon emissions from transportation by 67%. 💪 Health Benefits:Cycling is an excellent form of moderate-intensity exercise, reducing the risk of heart disease, stroke, and even premature death. It’s accessible to all ages and can be seamlessly integrated into your daily routine. 📈Economic Benefits:Investing in cycling infrastructure is not only cost-effective but also economically beneficial. It reduces reliance on cars, lowers healthcare costs associated with physical inactivity, and boosts local economies through cycling tourism. The world is waking up to these benefits. The UN has declared June 3rd as World Bicycle Day, underscoring the importance of incorporating cycling into sustainable development plans. Let’s pedal towards a greener, healthier, and more prosperous future. 🚴♂️🌿 #GREENIPATH #WorldBicycleDay #Cycling #Health #EconomicGrowth #ProtectOurPlanet #ProtectWildlife #PreserveNature #SaveOurTreasures #sustainable #sustainability #sustainabilitymatters #sustainabledevelopment #sustainableliving #SustainabilityLeadership #actnow #ClimateAction #greenearth #greenerworld #greenfuture #netzero

🗨 🚴♀️ 🚶♂️ Many of us have been there in meetings or writing policy, trying to describe sustainable transport. And we land on “Non-Motorized Transport.” But seriously: ❌ 🚗 What does "non-motorized" even mean? It’s a catch-all term that reinforces a car-centric mindset, making walking and cycling seem like exceptions. It doesn’t really do justice to the actual modes of transport we’re talking about. 🚶♀️ Walking and 🚴♂️ cycling have distinct policy requirements and lumping them together overlooks key differences: 👣 People walking need safe, accessible sidewalks, protected crossings, seating, and proper lighting. 🚲 Cyclists need separated bike lanes, secure parking, and protection from motor traffic. These groups shouldn’t be treated the same because their infrastructure needs are different. 💡 Solution? Let’s call it what it is: Walking and Cycling. Simple, clear, and focused on delivering the infrastructure and attention both groups deserve. What do you think about it? Let's discuss in the comments! #UrbanMobility #Walking #Cycling #ActiveMobility Meme by Nikola Medimorec

Did you know! 😎 *Cycling is good for our health and wellbeing and, because it is one of the most sustainable modes of transport, it's good for the planet too. That's why we mark World Bicycle Day every June, to encourage more people to take to two wheels. *The number of people riding bikes shifted up a gear after the pandemic, as did the distances they covered. 8.5 million people cycled more than once a week in 2021, up from an average of 7.4 million in the period 2015 to 2019. *The UK Local Authority where cycling is most popular is Cambridge, where 50% of the population regularly travel by bike, followed by Oxford (35%), Isles of Scilly (30%), Hackney (28%), and Southwark (25%). Making one trip per day on your bike instead of your car can reduce your carbon footprint by approximately 0.5 tonnes over one year (University of Oxford). 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴? As we explore here: https://bit.ly/3KFDmtI - cycling produces less carbon emissions than walking, even when we factor in the manufacturing process. 𝙒𝙝𝙮❓ 🥙 About three-quarters of the greenhouse gas emissions attributed to cycling are linked to food production. 👣 Walking uses more energy than cycling, so the theory is that we need more food to fuel our bodies if we walk somewhere than we would if we cycled. Whether you prefer walking or pedalling, both are more environmentally friendly ways of travelling than cars, and 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘱𝘴 𝘸𝘦 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯𝘪𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯𝘵 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘵 𝘰𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘵. #BikeHero #ThatPluxeeFeeling #Environment #CSR
